Emma

Pursuing a lifelong dream during a pandemic.
Emma is sitting on outside on a sandstone bench, smiling at the camera.

Moving from the beaches of Shellharbour in New South Wales to Springfield in early 2020, Emma chose the University of Southern Queensland because of what it offers in education.

'I chose the University of Southern Queensland because it’s a smaller university meaning I get more face time with my lecturers. There are also so many opportunities here when it comes to placement and practical learning.'

However, with the arrival of COVID-19 changing the world, Emma found herself stuck in a new city in her first semester of study. While isolation did take a toll, she said UniSQ gave her all the tools necessary to stay on top of her studies.

'Everything was made available to me online and my lecturers quickly adapted to online learning,' Emma said.

Although it was difficult to leave her hometown, Emma knows the benefits of living in a growing area such as Springfield. 'There are so many teaching opportunities in this area. I know multiple schools that are growing and need teachers,' Emma said.
