Vice-Chancellor and President
Professor Glen Coleman
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer of the University, and is also the University’s principal academic officer.The Vice-Chancellor exercises general supervision over the activities and welfare of staff and students of the University, and promotes the interests and furthers the development of UniSQ.
Professor Glen Coleman has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor and President from 2 January 2026 until the commencement of the incoming Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Paul Mazerolle, on 30 March 2026.
Background
Professor Coleman joined the University of Southern Queensland in July 2017 as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Sciences, and was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) in January 2022. In September 2025, he commenced in the newly established role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students and Education), reflecting UniSQ’s commitment to advancing educational innovation and student success.
A veterinarian by training, Professor Coleman’s research interests include parasitic diseases of companion animals, with a focus on drug resistance. He has received several awards for teaching excellence, including a University of Queensland Excellence in Teaching Award (2005) and a Carrick Award for Australian University Teaching Excellence (2007) in biological sciences, health, and related fields. Before joining UniSQ, Professor Coleman was Head of School and Dean of Veterinary Science at The University of Queensland’s Gatton campus. Under his leadership, the School established UQ VETS as one of Queensland’s largest providers of referral veterinary services, grew philanthropic support for the School’s mission, and achieved international recognition for its research and graduates – veterinary science at UQ was ranked highest in the southern hemisphere in 2017 (Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects). Professor Coleman has also held several leadership roles in the veterinary profession.
Memberships and affiliations
Professor Coleman remains engaged with the veterinary profession and veterinary accreditation and is a member of the Australian Veterinary Association and its Veterinarians in Education & Research Special Interest Group. He is an Honorary Professor at UQ’s School of Veterinary Science.
Professor Coleman is a member of the Southern Queensland Rural Health Advisory Board, the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre Board, and the Union Institute of Languages Board.
