Frequently asked questions

To discover which education degree is right for you, we encourage you to follow your passion. Ask yourself, do you enjoy working with young children, teenagers or adults? Are you passionate about a specific subject? Do you prefer one-on-one instruction, small groups or large classrooms?

When you think about aligning what you love within a teaching and education setting, you’ll be well on your way to finding the right degree for you. At UniSQ you can choose from a variety of teaching areas of interest, including:

UniSQ offers multiple pathways to help you achieve your goal of becoming a teacher:

  • Bachelor of Education: Ideal for school leavers or those who haven’t studied at university before. You can choose to specialise in early childhood, primary, or secondary settings.
  • Undergraduate certificates: These shorter qualifications are entry points into the Bachelor of Education, allowing you to commence your studies and gain foundational knowledge in the education and teaching field.
  • Master of Learning and Teaching: If you already hold a bachelor's degree in a non-education field, this postgraduate program enables you to become a qualified teacher in early years, primary, or secondary education.
  • Specialised programs: UniSQ also offers unique pathways like the Trade to Teach Internship Program for tradespeople and the Turn to Teaching Internship Program for high-achieving graduates, providing practical experience and support.

At UniSQ, you can tailor your education degree to specialise in various teaching areas:

  • Early Childhood: Focuses on teaching children from birth to 8 years old, preparing you for roles in kindergartens, preschools, and early learning centres.
  • Primary Education: Equips you to teach students from Prep to Year 6, covering a broad curriculum across various subjects.
  • Secondary Education: Prepares you to teach students from Year 7 to 12 in specific subject areas such as English, mathematics, science, or humanities.
  • Special and Inclusive Education: Designed for educators aiming to support students with diverse learning needs, this specialisation enhances your ability to create inclusive learning environments.

Practical experience is a cornerstone of UniSQ's education degrees. Throughout your studies, you'll engage in supervised professional placements in various educational settings, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world classrooms. These placements are structured to progressively build your teaching skills and confidence.

UniSQ provides comprehensive support during your placements, including guidance from experienced mentors and access to resources to ensure you are well-prepared for your teaching career.

To teach in Queensland, you must be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). Graduates of UniSQ's accredited education programs are eligible to apply for this registration. UniSQ ensures that our degrees align with the standards set by the QCT and the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), providing you with the qualifications needed to embark on your teaching career.
