Prizes

Each year students are recognised for their outstanding academic achievement through prizes and awards.

The following are supported by generous donations from various donors who wish to recognise and reward outstanding students.

Australasian College of Paramedicine Prize in Applied Paramedicine
Established in 2021, the Australasian College of Paramedicine Prize is awarded to students undertaking Applied Paramedicine 2 (PMC3230) who receive the highest mark on completing the course.

Bert and Vera Thiess Prize
The Bert and Vera Thiess Prize recognises excellence in civil engineering innovation and is awarded to civil engineering students undertaking a research project focussed on Construction (ENG4111). The prize was established in 2020 through an endowed gift from the Bert and Vera Thiess Foundation.

Best Wilson Buckley Family Violence & Child Protection Law Prize
The prize will be awarded to the highest achieving student in Family Violence and Child Protection Law (LAW3479). Established in 2021, this award was made possible by a Best Wilson Buckley Family Law gift.

CGLaw Prize in Advanced Civil Procedure
Awarded to the highest achieving student in either Civil Procedure (LAW3322) or Advanced Civil Procedure (LAW5322). Clifford Gouldson Lawyers established the CGLaw Endowment Fund in 2021. The CGLaw prize was awarded for the first time in 2022.

CLO Lawyers Prize in Succession Law
To be awarded to the highest achieving student in Succession Law (LAW3422). Established in 2021, this award was made possible by a gift from CLO Law. The CLO Lawyers prize was awarded for the first time in 2022.

David Kilmartin Prize
For a student in the Bachelor of Arts majoring in English Literature whose academic achievement over the program has been of the highest order.

Dr Barbara Harmes Memorial Prize for Research Publication Excellence
Established in 2023 through the generosity of the Harmes family, the prize was created to honour the life and work of Dr Barbara Harmes.  Barbara was an alumna and staff member of over 30 years at UniSQ, during which time she positively impacted the lives of many students at the University and UniSQ College. In her position as Higher Degree Research Language Learning Advisor she contributed to the success of many theses and journal articles. This endowed award commemorates Barbara by supporting Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students with the highest SNIP in the previous year

Ethics Law Prize
To be awarded to the student with the highest overall final percentage result from assessment completed in Lawyer's Ethics (LAW3312). Established in 2021, this prize was awarded for the first time in 2022.

Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland (FLPA) Prize in Family Law
Awarded to the student with the highest mark on completing the course Family Law (LAW2421).
Established in 2021, this prize was made possible by a gift from the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland.

Hunt-Smart Prize in Astrophysics
Established in 2021 through an endowed gift to the University, the Hunt-Smart prize recognises Darius Hunt, the first editor of The Chronicle, and Ms Jessie Smart. The prize recognises excellence in astrophysics (PHY2208).

Ipswich District Law Association Prize
Awarded to the highest achieving Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor graduate from the Ipswich campus. The awardee is the graduate with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in the year who had completed at least 16 courses at the Springfield campus. Established in 2019, this award has been made possible by a gift from the Ipswich District Law Association.

Keith Willey Award for Journalism
This annual journalism award was established in 1985 and named in honour of the late Keith Willey, a former lecturer in Journalism at UniSQ. It is awarded to the student who has completed two years of equivalent full-time study in Journalism, has Journalism as a first major, and has the highest GPA.

MacDonald Law Prize in Criminal Law
To be awarded to the highest achieving student in Criminal Law and Procedure (LAW1121). Established in 2021, this prize was made possible by a gift from MacDonald Law. The prize was awarded for the first time in Semester Two and Semester Three 2022.

Maurice French History Prize
This prize is awarded to a high-achieving graduating student who has majored in History and has enrolled in the History Honours program.

Roselynne Anderson Memorial Prize in Special Education

To be awarded to the graduating student with the highest overall grade point average in Special Education courses across Semester 1 and 2 results. The prize was awarded for the first time in 2021 and is made possible through the generosity of the Queensland Association of Special Education Leaders (QASEL) in memory of Roselynne Anderson.

 

Society of Construction Law Prize
Awarded to the student with the highest mark on completing the course Construction Law (LAW3473). Established in 2021, this award has been made possible by a gift from the Society of Construction Law Australia.

St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital Prize in Nursing
Established in 2022, the St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital Endowment Fund was created out of the generosity of Ramsay Health through the St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital. Awarded to the student with the highest overall final percentage result from an assessment completed in courses NUR3397 Complex Care A, NUR3398 Complex Care B and NUR3300 Clinical Inquiry & Evidence-Based Practice.

 

Surveyors Board of Queensland Prize
Established in 2023, the Surveyors Board of Queensland Prize was created out of the generosity of the Surveyors Board of Queensland to support final year surveying students at UniSQ.


Trevor Drysdale Prize
Established in 2020 and funded by an endowment fund, the Trevor Drysdale Prize recognises excellence in civil engineering. To commemorate Trevor’s life and his dedication to civil engineering, Trevor’s colleagues, family, and friends established a special endowment fund to support the award of this prize.
