University of Essex

Location: Essex, United Kingdom

The University of Essex is an international community of original thinkers who believe in challenging convention and changing the world for the better. The University is committed to two things: excellence in teaching and excellence in research. Studying abroad at the University of Essex will offer you experience in a different environment. Not only will it enrich your academic experience, it will also give you the chance to get to know another country and culture in a way that is not always possible as a tourist.

Course catalogue

View the course catalogue on the University of Essex website. Most detailed course outlines are available on the website. To find available modules, search for "Incoming Essex Abroad" and choose the department you are interested in.

Before making your selection:

  • Read the explanation of our module codes.
  • When reviewing a specific module's details, it will indicate whether the module is available to you as a study abroad student.
  • All selected modules must be credit-bearing and appropriate for your current level of study.
  • Note: that you can study at either our Colchester or Southend campus, but not at both. If you are interested in a module with prerequisites, you must demonstrate through your transcript that you have completed similar subject content courses at UniSQ. One UniSQ course would usually be equivalent to about six to eight ECTS (15 Essex Credits), but your UniSQ program coordinator will assess this.

April to June.

Autumn Term

October to December.

Students staying for a full academic year will be accommodated on campus as long as they apply before the relevant deadline. Single study bedrooms are available with shared kitchen facilities and either shared or en-suite bathrooms. Students studying at Colchester must select accommodation at the Colchester campus, while those wishing to study at Southend must select accommodation at the Southend campus.

Due to limited availability, on-campus accommodation cannot be guaranteed for students studying for one term unless there is an accommodation agreement with the partner university. Term-only students may need to find their own accommodation, but guidance on alternative options will be provided.

If students choose not to apply for campus accommodation, the Student Union may be able to assist in finding private local accommodation options.

For more information on campus accommodation, visit the Essex University Accommodation website.

For private accommodation assistance, visit the Essex Student Union Homes website.

Insurance

Students will be required to obtain health insurance prior to going to the UK. Emergency healthcare is free at the point of access, however all other healthcare provisions will need to be paid for in advance. Insurance purchased should cover travel, health and personal belongings. If any insurance policy can be used, students may qualify to be covered under the UniSQ insurance policy. Please check with the Mobility Team at the time of acceptance to the exchange program.
