Student awards


Student awards recognise the outstanding extra-curricular achievement of our UniSQ students. We are proud to recognise current students who have shown outstanding achievement in the areas of leadership, community service, student clubs, sport and much more.

Successful nominees will be invited to receive their awards or high commendations at the annual UniSQ Student Awards Ceremony, in November.


Community Engagement

UniSQ recognises the importance of engaging, supporting, and learning from Australian First Nations communities, history, culture, knowledge and practice.

The Australian First Nations Community Engagement Award recognises a current UniSQ student for their active commitment, engagement, support and/or delivery of activities and initiatives that support Australian First Nations students and/or Australian First Nations communities.

UniSQ students can put their leadership skills into real-life action through service, identifying issues that matter to them and taking the initiative to make a positive difference to their local communities.

The Community Service Award recognises a student who has demonstrated commitment and positive impact through service-based (voluntary) contributions.

UniSQ is proud to respect, value, and champion the rich variety of cultural identities, languages, and beliefs within the University. The diversity and multiculturalism that makes up the student cohort is a strength that lends itself to all aspects of a student’s journey.

The International Community Engagement Award goes to a student who has demonstrated active engagement, support or delivery of activities and initiatives that support international students and/or international communities.

Excellence

The All-Round Excellence Award recognises a student who has demonstrated involvement and excellence in a range of areas, while maintaining their academic achievement.

Areas of involvement may include, but are not limited to, sport, leadership, arts, cultural endeavours, student clubs, and community service.

The Australian First Nations Excellence Award recognises the achievements of an Australian First Nations student who has excelled in a range of areas, while maintaining their academic achievement.

UniSQ believes that every individual has a role to play in bringing the University values to life. Students live out these values every day through the positive, supportive and meaningful relationships they create with their peers, staff, and the community.

The University Values Award recognises a student who has demonstrated commitment to and application of the values of Respect, Integrity, and Excellence through their curricular, extra and co-curricular involvement.

Leadership

UniSQ recognises the importance of student leadership development and empowers students to build their leadership skills and self-knowledge through participation in both paid and volunteer programs. By undertaking these programs, students not only develop personally and professionally, but have a positive impact on UniSQ students just like themselves.

The Student Leader Award recognises a student who has demonstrated commitment and positive impact within their role as a Student Partner (Leader).

Student Partner (Leader) roles include Voice (UniSQ-elected Student Senate, Academic or Governance Representative), professional (iconnect, Student Ambassador, Residential Leader, Peer Assisted Learning Leader), or Affiliate (Student Guild, student club or society executive, university sport team captains).

UniSQ recognises the value of student partnership in creating a more inclusive, equitable and effective learning environment. Amplifying the student voice empowers students to take an active role in speaking up and shaping their education and the governance of the University. Students who engage in voice roles represent the student voice by building and fostering collaborative relationships with staff, students, and stakeholders. These student representatives volunteer their time to actively contribute to their learning journey and improve the student experience for all their peers.

The Student Voice Award recognises a Voice Student Partner (UniSQ-elected Student Senate member, Academic Student Representative or Governance Student Representative) or Project Partner who has demonstrated commitment and positive impact within the student community through their advocacy for the student voice.

UniSQ is committed to championing innovative and positive change-making ideas, and is proud to uplift the student community at the forefront.

The Innovation Award goes to a student who has demonstrated commitment to innovation, and positive impact from the facilitation or implementation of their initiative.

Sport

Non-playing roles in sport, including coaching, officiating, managing, and administrative tasks, are vital for the success and ongoing delivery of sporting clubs and events.

The Outstanding Service to Sport Award recognises a student who has excelled in non-playing sporting roles, and/or has made significant voluntary contributions within sport.

Sport enriches the student learning journey through activity and community both on and off the field, and can help to develop a well-rounded approach to other aspects of University life.

The Student Athlete of the Year award recognises a student who has demonstrated exceptional achievement in their chosen sport while managing their academic commitments.

UniSQ Clubs and Socieities

Clubs and Societies help students connect with the University community, learn new skills, develop lifelong friendships, and take part in a range of activities that matter to them.

The Club of the Year award goes to an affiliated UniSQ Student Club or Society that has demonstrated positive and substantial impact within the University, particularly in student life, through club initiatives and activities. Additionally, they have demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement and the development of new initiatives.
