It was the desire for a career change that led Amber to enrol with UniSQ. Now, with two postgraduate qualifications under her belt, she is working in her dream job and making a positive impact in the lives of others. She credits UniSQ with helping make her career goals a reality.
“I chose the Graduate Diploma of Counselling at UniSQ because of its flexible structure and because I knew it was an accredited course with the counselling bodies in Australia,” said Amber.
“I was able to complete my degree while working full-time because the program was online. The staff and teaching team made everything easy and were supportive. I never felt like a number.
“Studying counselling with UniSQ has helped me to secure my dream job and start my own business. I loved how practical and skills-based the courses were, and how the University provided so many great opportunities for professional development and networking. These things helped me to boost my confidence and enter the workforce feeling competent, knowledgeable, and excited.
“Straight after graduation I was able to find a counselling role working with my ideal client type, in the trauma and alcohol and other drugs sector. That quickly led to me opening my own private practice. Now I see private clients whilst also working with diverse clients in addiction and suicide crisis support. I get to enjoy both sides of the industry – building my own business and being my own boss while also working across the not-for-profit sector and building community connections.
“I’ve been able to network and gain a lot of experience, early on, this is partly due to the amazing UniSQ mentors I had in the graduate diploma and in my following masters degree.
“UniSQ gave me the skills and confidence to achieve much more than I thought possible.”
