Career outcomes

With engineering infrastructure all around us, civil engineering expertise is increasingly in demand across a variety of industries.

As a graduate, you'll be qualified to work as a professional civil engineer in the design, development, construction, and management of projects in areas such as structures, transportation, water supply and treatment, and general infrastructure. Other potential career paths include:

  • roles in government departments
  • positions within private engineering firms
  • work related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of roads, bridges, transport systems, buildings, water schemes, and industrial or manufacturing facilities. 

Professional accreditation

As a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you will be eligible to apply for graduate membership with Engineers Australia as a Graduate Professional Engineer. After gaining experience working in your field in industry, you can apply for Stage 1 Professional Engineer (MIEAust), and after this, for chartered status as a Professional Engineer (CPEng); and with extensive career experience Executive Engineer (ExecEng) accreditation. You will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with your accreditation recognised in the countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.
