Scott Sargood Memorial Scholarship

In 2026, UniSQ will offer one Scott Sargood Memorial Scholarship to support a student continuing their studies in the Bachelor of Environmental Science (any major), Bachelor of Science (Environment & Sustainability), or Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Environment & Sustainability), including double degree programs.

Established in 2020, the Scott Sargood Memorial Endowment Fund was created by family and friends to commemorate Scott Sargood’s life and his dedication to the environment of the Southern Queensland Landscapes region. The fund is open to further giving and its first purpose is to support this scholarship. 

Scott was recognised for his commitment to the natural world and his ability to connect with people from many backgrounds. This award is a tribute to his knowledge of the land and generosity of spirit. 

Southern Queensland Landscapes’ vision is to achieve flourishing landscapes in Southern Queensland. This vision is inclusive of both the natural assets and the communities who live and work on the land.

The scholarship will have a maximum value of $4000 to be paid in one instalment.

Additional optional opportunity:

Recipient may also be offered the opportunity to visit the rangelands in coordination with Southern Queensland Landscapes and the Sargood family.

Applicants must:

  • be a domestic student currently residing in Australia
  • be continuing their studies full-time at UniSQ in the Bachelor of Environmental Science (any major), Bachelor of Science (Environment & Sustainability), or Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Environment & Sustainability), including double degree programs, in Trimester 1 2026
  • have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 4.0 as at the release of results for Trimester 3 2025.

Applicants must:

  • address each personal statement question below (250 words maximum per question):
    • how have your academic experiences shaped your approach to learning, and how will you apply this to your remaining studies? Examples are encouraged.
    • describe your career goals within your chosen field, and the impact that you hope to make as a professional
    • what are your interests in natural resource management of Australia’s rangelands.

*Applicants will also be assessed on their academic achievement.

**Preference will be given to applicants that demonstrate a desire to work on issues relevant to the management of Australia’s rangelands.

Please Note: If an applicant holds other UniSQ awarded scholarships, this may be taken into consideration in selection. There are some scholarships that cannot be held together.
