Bert and Vera Thiess Scholarship

In 2026, UniSQ will offer one Bert & Vera Thiess Scholarship to support a student continuing their studies in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil Engineering).

The Bert & Vera Thiess Foundation was established to honour the life and legacy of Bert & Vera Thiess, whose vision, determination and generosity helped shape Australia’s civil construction landscape. Bert Thiess, a pioneering engineer and entrepreneur, led major infrastructure projects across the country, supported always by Vera’s shared commitment to giving back.

With strong ties to the Darling Downs, the Foundation recognises the importance of supporting regional education and fostering local talent to build Australia’s future – just as Bert and Vera did during their lifetimes.

The scholarship will have a maximum value of $12 000 to be paid over three years.
