12.00 PM - 2.30 PM
Professor Evonne Miller, Director of QUT's Design Lab, will introduce participants to arts-based research (ABR). This approach integrates the diverse creative arts, from drawing and photography (photovoice) to drama, digital storytelling, creative writing, and poetry, into the research process. This can include data collection to analysis and/or dissemination.
Participants will explore the advantages, challenges, and opportunities of using ABR across various stages of research, with hands-on experience with three specific ABR methods:
- Drawing: explore how visual expression can connect and reveal.
- Photography (Photovoice): learn how participant-generated images share lived experience and spark dialogue.
- Research Poetry: transform data into poetic forms that evoke understanding.
This workshop is for anyone interested in using creative research approaches to explore real-world issues, and is designed to equip participants with the confidence, knowledge, and tools to engage meaningfully with arts-based research (ABR) and arts-based knowledge translation (ABKT), where art is used to communicate and disseminate research knowledge in different ways to diverse audiences.
