Delivered by Professor Gagan Deep Sharma, from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, this masterclass focuses on equipping Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates and supervisors with a coherent, end-to-end framework for designing doctoral research that is both intellectually rigorous and publication-ready.

The session traces the doctoral research journey from the formulation of meaningful and theoretically grounded research questions to the development of manuscripts suitable for high-quality international journals. Drawing on extensive experience in doctoral supervision, editorial decision-making, and interdisciplinary research, the presentation will address common challenges faced by HDR researchers, including conceptual drift, misalignment between research questions and methods, and difficulties in articulating original contributions.

Particular attention will be given to theory positioning, methodological coherence, and strategies for converting thesis chapters into impactful journal articles. The masterclass adopts a practical yet reflective approach, combining conceptual guidance with real-world examples from published research and editorial practice. Designed for a broad HDR audience across disciplines, the session aims to strengthen research design capabilities, enhance publication confidence, and support supervisors in mentoring doctoral candidates toward timely and high-impact research outcomes.
