The Centre for Regional Futures warmly invites you to attend a presentation by visiting international speaker Associate Professor Michał Zdziarski from the University of Warsaw.
What can regions at the perceived “periphery” teach us about building more sustainable futures? Drawing on Poland’s remarkable transformation from an oppressive, highly polluted economy to one of the leading countries in the global sustainability journey, this talk will challenge some of the assumptions embedded in contemporary thinking about sustainable development.
This talk will ask whether balancing economic, social and environmental goals is ambitious enough - and whether our responsibility to future generations should go beyond simply preserving their ability to meet their needs. Bringing together historical experience, international business and the idea of solidarity, the presentation argues for a more connected, human-centred and ambitious approach to development: one focused not only on sustaining the future, but on expanding what future generations and regions may be able to achieve.

About the speaker
Michał Zdziarski, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at the University of Warsaw, where he chairs a Research Group in Strategy and International Business, and the South Asian Research Center (SARC) in the Faculty of Management. He has extensive experience in advanced research design and methods in international business, strategic management and sustainability. He has led and participated in major international research networks and grant-funded projects, published academic work in international journals and trained doctoral students across multiple institutions, combining methodological rigor with applied, interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives.
