As a registered primary school teacher, you'll have the skills and experience to teach students in Prep to Year 6 classrooms in a variety of settings including, public, private, metropolitan, rural, remote and international schools. If you don't wish to work directly in the classroom, you can also find work as a private tutor, in learning support roles in higher education institutions such as TAFE colleges or universities, roles in community youth work, or as an academic advisor.
No, you don't need prior teaching experience to start a primary education degree at UniSQ. The entry requirements focus on academic qualifications rather than work experience. You'll need to meet a minimum ATAR and subject pre-requisites in English, maths and a Year 12 science subject.
The Undergraduate Certificate of Teaching (Primary) takes half a year of full-time study. This degree, whilst not qualifying you to be a teacher, provides a great introduction to the concepts of primary school teaching.

UniSQ's Bachelor of Education (Primary) is designed to equip graduates with the confidence to teach primary school students in a variety of contexts across all learning areas. You'll learn from industry professionals and academics to develop sound knowledge of subject-matter, preparing you to teach within areas including arts, technology, humanities, maths, English, health and physical education, or science.
You'll develop invaluable transferable skills including collaboration, organisation, adaptability, communication, empathy and patience, that can be applied across a range of professional contexts. You'll also complete 80 days of supervised placement in P-6 classrooms at a variety of locations, including rural, remote and international placements.
