UniSQ's Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to confidently teach high school students across a variety of learning contexts. As a graduate, you are prepared to work as a qualified teacher in Years 7 to 12 in Queensland, throughout Australia and overseas (subject to local requirements).
Graduating with a secondary education degree means you'll be able to register as a secondary school teacher through the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). University graduates with a degree in secondary education can gain employment in state and private schools, hospital schools, international schools, flexi-school delivery and traditional classrooms.
Certain subject areas are particularly sought after, including mathematics and science teachers. There is also considerable demand for qualified teachers willing to work in regional and remote areas of Australia. Teaching skills are highly transferable and can be applied in various industries, from human services to community-based government organisations, or recreation and tourism.
A Bachelor of Secondary Education generally takes four years of full-time study to complete. If you already have an education qualification from TAFE or relevant work experience, you may be eligible to receive credit to help you finish your degree faster.
You can choose to study full-time or part-time. A part-time study load is undertaking less than 6 courses during one academic year, which could be an option if you have other commitments while completing your degree. You can choose to study the Bachelor of Education Secondary online, with exception to your practical placement courses, which will require you to attend a range of school settings.
The ATAR requirement for UniSQ's Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is 66.00. However, you don't need to have an ATAR or come straight from high school to study at uni. Your work experience and other adjustment factors may help you meet UniSQ's entry requirements. If you have work and life experience or a TAFE (VET) qualification, you may be able to receive recognition of prior learning or work experience to reduce the number of courses you need to take.

Through professional experience placements, you'll gain experience in classroom teaching, lesson preparation, and have the opportunity to interact with students in different schools and classroom settings. You'll complete 80 days of professional experience in a variety of rural and remote settings, and engage with state, Independent, Catholic and other faith-based schools, as well as alternative, special and inclusive educational environments.
You have the opportunity to complete your 80 days of professional experience in a variety of locations with this professionally accredited degree. You'll explore a range of classroom settings, engaging in state, independent, Catholic or other faith-based schools, alternative, special and inclusive educational settings and with students who study via the School of Distance Education.
