Overview
- Learn to design and deliver high-quality occupational therapy (OT) assessment and interventions to individuals, their families and communities with UniSQ’s Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours).
- As one of the fastest growing registered allied health professions, occupational therapists work with people across the lifespan to help with injuries, developmental difficulties, illness, chronic health conditions or psychosocial needs to function in their environment.

- Gain comprehensive training in OT knowledge and skills and put theory into practice when completing 1000 hours of supervised clinical placement required for your occupational therapy registration.

- The practice pathway focuses on industry partnerships and addresses everyday practice topics.
- The research pathway allows you to create an individual research project (this pathway is dependent on GPA).
Regardless of which honours pathway you choose, you will be eligible to apply for entry into a higher degree by research.

Career outcomes
- As a graduate, you can register with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and practise as an occupational therapist in Australia. You will also be eligible for registration with overseas professional bodies to enable you to work internationally.
- You can find work as an occupational therapist in hospitals, aged care services, disability services, child and adolescent services, community health services and mental health, private practice, or vocational rehabilitation services, and many more areas.
- This qualification equips graduates to be leaders in the delivery of digital health care, which is critical for people living in regional and rural communities, to be well-skilled in rural and remote health care.
Professional accreditation
This degree is accredited (with conditions) by the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia (Ltd) (OTC) and approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA). Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as an Occupational Therapist with the OTBA once they satisfy the OTBA registration criteria.
This degree is compliant with World Federation of Occupational Therapists Minimum Standards for the Education of Occupational Therapists and will meet the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards for safe and effective occupational therapy practice.
What you'll study
To graduate from the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours), you must successfully complete 32 units of study.
Degree structure
An undergraduate university degree typically consists of a combination of core, major and elective courses designed to provide you with foundational knowledge and opportunities for an in-depth deeper dive into your chosen field.

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previous studies or relevant work experience. This could reduce the number of courses you need to study to complete your degree.
Degree requirements
You will need to complete 1000 hours of supervised clinical experiences, in placements that will be organised by the University.
All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of clinical/professional practice within this degree.
Students are expected to fund a clinical uniform as well as travel and living expenses associated with placements, some of which may be outside the Ipswich/Toowoomba metropolitan area.

Subject pre-requisites:
- English (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent
- at least one QCAA Science subject (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent.

If you’ve done any study at UniSQ or another university, you may be eligible to apply based on your previous studies. We’ll use the best selection rank from your previous studies when assessing your application.
If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you can use your Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) awards of:
- certificate III
- certificate IV
- diploma or
- advanced diploma
to apply to study with UniSQ.
We will review your academic history to determine if you’re eligible for admission. We’ll convert your TAFE or VET qualification, past school results and any relevant work experience into a selection rank. This selection rank will determine which degrees you meet the entry requirements for.
If it’s been over two years since you completed secondary education and you haven’t pursued any vocational education training (VET) or higher education since, you’re still eligible to study at UniSQ.
You don't need to have an ATAR or come straight from high school to study at uni. Your work experience and other adjustment factors may help you meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

- IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 7.0 and a minimum score of 7.0 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted.

While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet these requirements throughout your studies.
