Curious about how to develop innovative solutions to balance human development while preserving the environment? At an introductory level, you will explore topics such as pollution, water resource management, water distribution subsystem analysis and design, waste management, climate change and fundamentals relating to stability and integrity of engineering projects under different conditions. 

Are you motivated by improving technology to better the environment and minimise our footprint? Work with experienced industry experts and academics examining urban hydrology design, pollution modelling and management of contaminated lands. 

Your capstone course will give you the opportunity to dive into an exciting project designed to expand your thinking and problem-solving skills to develop solutions for practical engineering problems.

This degree is a great stepping stone to our Bachelor of Engineering Technology or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) where you will be credited for your studies already undertaken in the Associate Degree of Engineering.

Professional accreditation

When you graduate with your Associate Degree, you’ll be eligible for full accreditation with Engineers Australia. Apply for membership after you graduate to become an Engineering Associate and with the experience you will gain from working in the field, you can apply for chartered status as an Engineering Associate.

Career outcomes

  • Once you graduate, although not a fully qualified engineer you will be able to have valuable positions that contribute to environmental sustainability and resource management.
  • Roles may include environmental technician, sustainability coordinator, environmental compliance specialist, sustainability consultant, waste management coordinator, water resources technician or climate change analyst.

Entry requirements

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C), and
  • General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C)

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

It is also recommended that you have studied Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Residential schools

This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential school courses. All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.

Professional experience / placements 

You’ll need to undertake at least 30 days of suitable work experience during this degree. This experience may be in an engineering office, laboratory, work site, or factory where you would be working principally with professional engineers, engineering technologists or engineering associates to gain insight into professional practice.
