Frequently asked questions

An undergraduate degree is the first level of university study after high school. Associate degrees, diplomas and bachelor's degree are all types of undergraduate degrees. If you are wanting to study for the first time or are thinking about changing careers, undergraduate study will likely be the most relevant type of tertiary education. Undergraduate degrees provide foundational knowledge, preparing you for careers or further study.

Undergraduate study can be the first step after high school, a pathway to an exciting new career or a way to enhance your employment prospects. There are four main types of undergraduate qualifications; bachelor’s degree, diploma, associate degree, and certificate.

Bachelor’s degree

A bachelor’s degree can pave the way for a fulfilling career. Typically taking three years of full-time study to complete, this qualification allows you to gain specialised knowledge in topics you’re interested in. If you want to continue your study journey, a bachelor’s degree can open doors for postgraduate study and research opportunities.

Associate degree

Explore your field of interest with a two-year associate degree. This is a great way to increase your career prospects and gain valuable skills and knowledge. An associate degree can also help you enter into a bachelor’s degree with credit.

Diploma

A diploma allows you to sample areas of study you’re interested in. This qualification usually requires one year of full-time study. Credits from your diploma can be applied to a bachelor’s degree if you choose to continue your study journey.

Certificate

With just four courses, a certificate has a short duration of study but is full of opportunity. A certificate can be a great way to experience university study and decide on your next step.

The short answer is, yes you can. It will take some organisation, but we’ll be here to support you every step of the way. Our degrees are designed to fit around you and your lifestyle. Our flexible study options mean that you can balance your studies with work, family and other life commitments. You can choose to study online or on campus and either part-time or full-time – make your degree work for you.

Whether you’ve recently graduated from high school, are looking to kick-start your tertiary education, or coming back to study as a mature-age student, UniSQ has plenty of undergraduate degrees to choose from.

If you ever need a helping hand, please let us know. We are proud to offer some of the best university support around.

Choosing a career path and the right university degree can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. At UniSQ, speaking with a Degree Advisor or Career Advisor for free is a great first step. They’ll help you explore your interests, strengths, and goals to find study options that match your future career direction. Whether you're unsure about what to study or want to understand how different degrees lead to different jobs, our advisors offer expert guidance tailored to you. They can also explain course details, career outcomes, and flexible study options.

UniSQ degrees can be study online, on campus or a mix of both. However you choose to study, you’ll experience the same level of support and opportunity to connect with your lecturers and peers. Below we explain what each study mode means for you.

Online

Online study means you can access your lectures and tutorials from home or wherever you are. All of your study materials are available online through your personal UConnect student portal – you won't need to come on campus at all while studying these subjects.

On campus

If you choose to study on campus, you can attend lectures, tutorials and workshops in person. UniSQ has campuses in Toowoomba, Springfield and Ipswich. Not all degrees are offered at all campuses, you can see what campuses your degree is offered at via the UniSQ website. Even if you choose to study on campus, you can access your study materials online through your personal UConnect student portal.

External

External study means that most of your study is done online, including lectures and tutorials, however, there is an element of in-person learning. You will have the opportunity to gain practical skills through on-campus residential schools or during industry placements.

Undergraduate study is the first level of university and includes qualifications like a bachelor’s degree. To study a postgraduate degree generally you will need to have already completed a bachelor’s degree. Postgraduate study includes qualifications such as a master’s or PhD. Undergraduate degrees build your foundational knowledge, while postgraduate qualifications deepen your knowledge in a specific area. Both help you grow your skills and career opportunities.

There are two main ways to apply for an undergraduate degree; via QTAC or directly to UniSQ. The best way for you to apply will depend on how you’re coming to study. For example, whether you’re in Year 12 or a TAFE graduate will shape your application process. If you have questions about how to apply, please get in touch and our friendly team will help.
