Frequently asked questions
Undertaking pilot training and what you need to study will vary, depending on the education provider you choose.
UniSQ's Bachelor of Aviation allows you to prepare for a career in an exciting and fast-paced industry, with the option to take various study paths depending on your interest area. Do you want to become a pilot in Australia? Kickstart your career in the skies and train to become a pilot by undertaking our Flight Operations major. Or be in the heart of the action by exploring an exciting, groundbreaking role with our Aviation Management major.
At UniSQ, our Flight Operations degree integrate academic study with practical flight training. In your first year, you'll engage with aviation theory and experience flying in our state-of-the-art flight simulators, modeled after Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft.
By your second year, you move to a UniSQ-approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to undertake the Diploma of Aviation.
On successful completion of the Diploma of Aviation AVI50222 (Commercial Pilot License - Aeroplane) or AVI50319 (Commercial Pilot License - Helicopter) and companion UniSQ unit AVN3500 Flight Operations Professional Practice, you’ll receive credit for eight units towards your aviation degree - recognising the equivalent of one full year study.
While UniSQ provides competitive tuition fees, students should anticipate additional costs associated with flight training, which are paid directly to the RTO. Financial assistance is available through various avenues:
- Higher Education Loan Program (HELP): Eligible domestic students can defer tuition and Student Amenities fees.
- Scholarships and grants: UniSQ offers scholarships like the Study Support Grant to assist students with study-related expenses.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations) and the required Diploma of Aviation with a UniSQ-approved flight school, will become eligible for the Commercial Pilot License (CPL) issued by CASA, qualifying you to operate as a professional pilot.
Those pursuing the Aviation Management major will gain a comprehensive understanding of aviation operations, preparing them for leadership roles within the industry.
UniSQ's aviation programs open doors to diverse career opportunities:
- Flight Operations graduates: Commercial airline pilot, charter pilot, flight instructor, or roles within the Australian Defence Force.
- Aviation Management graduates: Positions in airline and airport operations, aviation safety, regulatory bodies, and logistics management.
Our affiliation with the Qantas Group Aviation Career Enrichment Program (Q-ACE) offers high-achieving students mentorship and potential pathways into the aviation industry.
