What you'll study
To graduate from the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing , you must successfully complete 24 units of study.
Degree structure

Entry requirements
You need to satisfy the following requirements to be considered for entry into this degree.

To study this degree, we assume you have sound knowledge in:
- English (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent
We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.
Additional entry requirements
- Attend an interview/audition with selected creative arts discipline staff to confirm satisfactory capacity to participate in practical courses.
- For registration and interview/audition tips, please view our Auditions and interviews. Please note that you will need to apply for your degree before registering to audition/interview. Auditions and interviews will be held at UniSQ Springfield campus or via Zoom.
- if you have no ATAR, you can successfully undertake an audition/interview with portfolio and supply a written statement.
Music major
Applicants are not required to have undertaken high school music and certification from the Australian Music Examinations Board is not required.
For the audition and interview, applicants will need to bring:
- a school exit statement, or evidence of previous education standard achieved
- your own accompanying tracks on MP3 or an iPod if required
- if you don't have an ATAR, please provide a written statement (500 words) addressing your interests, goals and aspirations in studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing, with some reflection on your musical experiences and training.
Theatre major
For the audition and interview, applicants will need to bring:
- a head shot-style photo
- a school exit statement, or evidence of previous education standard achieved
- a portfolio of previous achievements relevant to the discipline major. Be prepared to discuss those achievements and experiences with the interview panel.
- if you don't have an ATAR, please bring a written statement (500 words) addressing your interests, goals and aspirations in studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing, with some reflection on your previous performing arts/theatre experiences and training.
Visual Art major
For the interview, applicants will need to bring:
- a head shot-style photo
- a school exit statement, or evidence of previous education standard achieved
- a portfolio of previous achievements relevant to the visual art major, containing at least 8-10 high quality images of your work. It is not necessary to bring the physical works. Be prepared to discuss your work, achievements and experiences with the interview panel.
- if you don't have an ATAR, please bring a written statement (500 words) addressing your interests, goals and aspirations in studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing.
You'll need to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires:
- IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted.
During your study
While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet these requirements throughout your studies.
It is a requirement that Queensland-based students hold a current positive notice indicating that they are deemed suitable for working with children and young people whilst studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing. When you study a Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing at UniSQ you will learn how your creative practice can engage positively with communities to build resilience, capacity and cohesion. This Arts and Communication degree is underpinned by introductory Human Services courses to equip you with the necessary knowledge to make long lasting positive impacts to individuals and groups within your community.
The entry requirements to study a creative arts degree will vary depending on the education provider you choose.
To study a Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing at UniSQ you need to meet a minimum ATAR and assumed knowledge. ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subjects before you start your degree.
You will also be required to attend an audition/interview either on-campus or virtually and provide additional supporting information.
If you don’t have an ATAR you can still be accepted into the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing by undertaking an audition/interview and supply a written statement.

At UniSQ You can choose from three specialisations.
Music - This major focuses on two modes of music practise including collaborative live performance and individual and collaborative music practice in digital spaces. Coursework in this major explores individual and collective music making, collaborative processes, live and digital performance, instrumental work, and songwriting, composition, and musical arrangement.
Theatre - Blend acting, dramaturgy, creative development, cultural responsibility, and theatre-in-community learning experiences to build on your existing knowledge and enhance your transferrable skills.
Visual Art - Gain studio-based knowledge, technical proficiency and the work ethic needed for visual arts practice as a skilled professional working with communities.
Continue to fine tune your skills and knowledge by using your BA of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing as a stepping-stone to further studies, such as our Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours).
Tailor your degree to suit your career goals and expand your skillset.
- Introduce additional Human Services courses as your second major or minor. You can specialise in Child and Family Studies, Community Development and Indigenous Studies or Counselling.
