Institute for Health

The Institute for Health harnesses diverse, interdisciplinary expertise to address the most pressing health and healthcare challenges facing our communities. Our research programs are strategically designed to generate evidence-based and innovative solutions across key domains: the integration of cutting-edge technologies into healthcare delivery, mental health and wellbeing, ageing and longevity, chronic disease management, and preventive health. We are deeply committed to advancing health equity, with a particular focus on priority populations.

The Institute works closely with the School of Nursing and Midwifery and School of Health, Psychological and Medical Sciences to deliver its targeted research programs and create health innovations across the lifespan and healthcare continuum. The Institute also works closely with researchers from the School of Science, Engineering and Digital Technologies, Education and Creative Arts and Business, Law, Humanities and Pathways to enhance our impact across digital health, artificial intelligence and medical device innovations, statistical and health economic modelling and community-based applications of health. Our research and impact are underpinned by longstanding partnerships with healthcare providers and communities which allow us to translate collaborative research into practice.

Ageing and Health

This research theme explores the ageing process and care of older adults from an inter-disciplinary perspective (nursing, biomedical, allied health). Projects examine both healthy ageing and the more common clinical conditions that tend to occur in older age, like dementia, stroke and other health problems. Projects focus on ageing from the perspective of health care, aged care, workforce direction and interventions to improve rehabilitation and quality of life for consumers, carers and staff.
