A new chapter: Madeline writes her own University story.

University of Southern Queensland student Madeline Young will turn the page on the next chapter of her life this week as one of many starting their university career.

The St Mary’s College graduate hopes to turn her future degree into a career writing books.

A keen reader and writer, Madeline was awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s scholarship to attend University of Southern Queensland in 2023.

She will study a Bachelor of Arts majoring in creative writing and minoring in English literature, radio and television.

“I’m most looking forward to expanding my creativity and develop a consistent practice in my writing and media skills,” she said.

Madeline plans to use the skills she will learn at University of Southern Queensland to become a fiction author.

“I’d love to write books and tell the stories I think need telling, and share that with people like me who find passion and comfort in books.” she said.

Madeline said receiving the scholarship made her appreciate the hard work she had put in to her academic career throughout high school.

“It showed me that regardless of what happens, I’ve proven to myself I am capable of great things,” she said.
