What you'll study
To graduate from the Master of Professional Engineering, you must successfully complete 16 units of study.
Degree structure

Degree requirements
You will be required to attend on-campus residential schools as part of this degree. During these sessions, you will attend face-to-face practical classes and workshops, use the laboratory facilities and specialised equipment, and engage with staff and fellow students.
Other study options
If you’re interested in further study, after completion of this degree you can go on to study the Master of Research (if you meet all the entry requirements).
Entry requirements
There are many ways to be considered for entry into a UniSQ degree based on your education, work experience and relevant personal attributes. You need to satisfy the following requirements to be considered for entry into this postgraduate degree.
- Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree, or equivalent, in engineering in the relevant specialisation
or - Australian university four-year Bachelor degree, or equivalent, in engineering in a non-related specialisation.
To be eligible for advanced standing entry:
- Completion of an Australian university four-year embedded honours degree, or equivalent, in engineering in the same or closely related cognate specialisation (major).
You'll need to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires:
- IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted.
During your study
While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet these requirements throughout your studies.
Inherent requirements are fundamental skills, capabilities, and knowledge that you must be able to demonstrate to achieve the essential learning outcomes of the degree, while maintaining the academic integrity of the degree.

What you will learn when you study a Masters of Professional Engineering will vary significantly depending on the specialisation you choose.
At UniSQ our Master of Professional Engineering qualification consists of 16 courses which include:
- six core courses
- six specialisation courses
- four selective courses.
You will also put your learnings into practice by attending residential schools. This provides you with the opportunity to experience hands-on practical activities, attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials, use facilities, and meet academics and other students. You may need to attend residential schools at various times through the year (typically in the mid-semester break) and be away from home for days or a few weeks at a time.
In addition to the hands-on laboratory sessions and 60 days industry experience, you will complete a research project and dissertation applying all your formal knowledge to a real-world problem.
Yes! The only exceptions are Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Management & Enterprise specialisation.
The other seven Master of Professional Engineering specialisations have been accorded full accreditation at the level of Professional Engineer by Engineers Australia and graduates are eligible for Graduate membership at the Professional Level.
The entry requirements for a Masters of Professional Engineering degree will vary depending on which university you choose. At UniSQ you'll need:
