What you'll study

To graduate from the Bachelor of Digital Design, you must successfully complete 24 units of study.

Degree structure

An undergraduate university degree typically consists of a combination of core, major and elective courses designed to provide you with foundational knowledge and opportunities for an in-depth deeper dive into your chosen field.

Students choose one of the following options

A second 8-unit major can be chosen from any approved 8-unit major, for example Advertising, Photography, Software Application Development, Creative Writing, etc. These can be found using the UniSQ Handbook online search function (https://handbook-guide.unisq.edu.au/) and will be distinguished by their "MAJ" coding. Alternatively, 8 complementary units in another program within the School of Creative Arts, for example, Film, Visual Arts, Music, etc. For more information, consult with the BDIT Program Director.

A 4-unit minor can be chosen from any approved 4-unit minor. These can be found using the UniSQ Handbook online search function (https://handbook-guide.unisq.edu.au/) and will be distinguished by their "MIN" coding. Please note that students can choose to add Digital Design minors as part of the suit of complementary studies. For more information, consult with the BDIT Program Director.

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previous studies. This could reduce the number of courses you need to study to complete your degree.

Other study options

If you’re interested in further study, after completion of this degree you can go on to study the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) (if you meet all the entry requirements).

Entry requirements

There are many ways to be considered for entry into a UniSQ degree based on your education, work experience and relevant personal attributes.

To be eligible

Select the highest level of education you have or will be completing to find the entry requirements that applies to you.

You need to satisfy the following requirements to be considered for entry into this degree.

ATAR 60.00
This is the lowest adjusted score to which UniSQ made an offer in Trimester 1, 2025. Meeting the lowest adjusted score doesn't guarantee admission.

To study this degree, we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

Portfolio and interview entry information

If you don't have an ATAR, you can apply for a portfolio and interview entry. Applicants must provide:

  • A portfolio of design work. There should be at least eight high quality images of past work and can include digital work or images of physical artefacts. 
  • A written statement (500 words) addressing what inspires you to want to become a designer in a particular discipline. 
  • A school exit statement or evidence of previous education standard achieved.

Steps to follow:

  1. Apply to study the Bachelor of Digital Design - refer to the 'How to apply' section of this page for more information.
  2. Please register for an interview. Once registered, we will review your portfolio and invite you to be interviewed. 

If you don't have an ATAR or are not a recent school-leaver, you can apply for a portfolio and interview entry.

Applicants must provide:

  • a portfolio of design work. There should be at least eight high quality images of past work and can include digital work or images of physical artefacts.
  • a written statement (500 words) addressing what inspires you to want to become a designer in a particular discipline.
  • a school exit statement or evidence of previous education standard achieved.

You'll need to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires:

  • IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted.

The Federal Government contributes to the cost of your degree, and you need to pay a student contribution.
  • This estimated 2025 annual fee is based on the current average rate for your first year of study (8 units per year) and does not include cost of materials such as textbooks, additional costs or the Student Services and Amenities fee

You may be required to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee as part of your degree cost.

Payment options

You may not have to pay your course (subject) fees upfront. HECS-HELP is a government loan scheme that allows you to defer payment until your income reaches a certain threshold. Find out if you are eligible for HECS-HELP.

What you will learn when you study a Bachelor of Design (also known as a Bachelor of Graphic Design or Bachelor of Animation) will vary depending on the education provider you choose. 

At UniSQ, all our Bachelor of Digital Design students study industry relevant core courses that provide you with the transferrable skills to thrive in a variety of Arts and Communication environments. These courses include learnings on: 

  • digital tools and software
  • motion capture technology
  • digital drawing tools
  • animation software
  • written, verbal and visual communications.

This will vary depending on your personal and professional goals. Digital design degrees go by a variety of different names such as a Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Game Design so it is good to know all of your options.

A good place to start is thinking about your experience in the industry and what you're passionate about. Once you identify what you love about design, it will help bring out your strengths when it comes to choosing what digital design degree is right for you. At UniSQ we offer four different specialisations.

In most instances, to qualify for entry into undergraduate digital design degrees such as a Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Graphic Design or Bachelor of Game Design you will require an ATAR. These entry requirements will vary depending on the education provider you choose. 

At UniSQ, to gain entry into our Bachelor of Digital Design you need to meet a minimum ATAR and assumed knowledge. ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subjects before you start your degree. If you don’t have an ATAR, don’t worry! You can partake in an interview to apply for entry.
