Student Senate
The Student Senate is your representative voice at UniSQ. We’re committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive student culture and ensuring your perspectives are heard in University decision-making. Our members work to enhance your student experience through advocacy, collaboration, and meaningful engagement.
As a vital link between students and the University, we identify opportunities to strengthen student voice and drive initiatives that promote participation and build community.
Did you know that all UniSQ students and staff are invited to attend Student Senate meetings as observers? Simply email representation@unisq.edu.au at least two university business days prior to a meeting for a link to join. Max Johnson is a multidisciplinary artist with a repertoire spanning from lead roles on the silver screen, to youth representative for his local electorate. Bay born, Logan raised, and Ipswich educated. The UniSQ Undergraduate Representative for 2026 strives to be "the rising tide which lifts everyone around him", believing in equality, mateship, and the fair go.
He's currently finishing his final year of the Creative Arts and Film Production degree with a minor in New Media.
My name is Callum Smith. I am 43 years old, originally from New Zealand and later based in Brisbane, Australia, and I am currently working in Southeast Asia within the energy sector. I am undertaking my business studies to further develop my leadership and strategic capability in my current role as a Project Manager. My academic background is in mechanical engineering.
Outside of work and study, my interests include reading, travelling, music, and outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking — essentially anything that gets me outdoors and connected with nature.
In addition to English, I speak and write Thai fluently. I moved to Thailand at a young age and have now worked here for more than 23 years. Throughout my career, I have worked in nearly 20 countries, which has given me valuable exposure to diverse cultures, working environments, and perspectives.
I look forward to contributing to the Student Senate in a proactive and meaningful way and to representing postgraduate students.

For those that don't know I am legally blind due to a hereditary condition.
Taz has returned to the student senate, again representing LGBTQIA+ students. He has an Associate Degree in International Relations, Chinese (Mandarin) and Plant Science and a Bachelor of Science - Psychology Extended from UniSQ and is currently undertaking a Master of Research - Psychology Specialisation. He has lived on college (Go the GOAT!) and worked at iconnect, Support for Learning and in policy development at UniSQ and is currently doing casual academic work for School of Psychology and owns his own business. When he is not advocating for his communities (disability and neurodivergent also), working on his research project or working for his business, he is usually doing performing arts related lessons, training or rehearsals.
Taz gains a good deal of satisfaction from leveraging the boundaries of the systems in place to ensure that marginalised groups are considered and cared for when changes happen and that areas that have been missed are corrected. He is often frustrated at how slow this can be, but he is happy to use his understanding of these systems to work on making effective and lasting change, as well as sitting through meetings so others don't have to.
Taz would be delighted to hear of any concerns from the student body, and will be resuming his advocacy to get gender neutral toilets offered on campus for our non-binary, agender and gender non-conforming students. If there are any concerns, big or small, he wants to know about them so he can help.
Hi everyone!
I’m your 2026 Sport Student Representative. I’m currently in my final year of my Bachelor of Laws, and outside my studies I work full-time in the Commonwealth Government—where I’ve been told I’m one of the youngest employees in my agency, if not the Australian Public Service.
Sport has always been a big part of my life. I’m a keen surfer and water polo player, and previously competed as a national-level swimmer. Alongside this, I’ve been fortunate to co-author several research articles and professional guidelines across different fields—including a publication in the Medical Journal of Australia.
My advocacy and community work have also been recognised with the NSW Government Community Service Award. I’m passionate about using my experience in sport, research, and public service to represent student voices and help strengthen our sporting community.
I look forward to hearing from you and working together this year!
Residential and regional representatives
I am a student driven by a clear purpose: to strengthen the sense of community and belonging at UniSQ. Throughout my time on campus, I’ve seen both the potential of our student body and the gaps in how we connect, engage, and experience university life beyond the classroom. My goal in the Student Senate is to help bridge that gap.
I am committed to advocating for meaningful, student-focused initiatives that create spaces for connection, collaboration, and creativity. Whether it’s supporting clubs, improving social infrastructure, or developing new opportunities for student engagement, I want to help shape a campus experience where students feel they truly belong.
This is not just about representation—it’s about building something lasting. I aim to contribute practical ideas, work constructively with stakeholders, and ensure student voices translate into real outcomes. My journey in the Senate is focused on leaving UniSQ stronger, more connected, and better equipped to support the students who call it home.
As a fellow law student at the University of Southern Queensland, I bring a unique perspective to student representation — one shaped by real-world business experience, academic rigour, and a genuine drive to make an impact.
Before pursuing law, I founded and scaled an e-commerce business, seeing it through to a successful exit. That experience gave me a practical understanding of strategy, risk, and accountability that I carry into everything I do — including how I approach advocacy for our student community.
Beyond the classroom, I've been selected for two elite startup and professional development programs — Torus VC and Tech Ready Women — and have gained hands-on exposure to commercial litigation at national law firm Piper Alderman, where I supported nine partners across complex matters including class actions and trials.
I'm deeply committed to building expertise in the legal field and to using the skills I've developed — in business, in practice, and in the community — to genuinely serve and advocate for online students. I know firsthand that online study comes with its own set of challenges and opportunities, and I'm here to make sure that experience is heard and valued at the senate level.
School representatives
Currently in my second year of a Bachelor of Arts, I am majoring in Archaeology, with a minor in International Relations, and have previously studied and obtained a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
I'm really interested in Marine Archaeology and Forensic Anthropology, however I can also be found pottering around the garden at home.
I have previous experience advocating for clients in different areas of law, often on a volunteer basis. I'm looking forward to putting these skills to use through the coming year.
Hello, fellow students. My name is Tennille, and I am a proud third-year BARTS Criminology and Law student, and I am passionate about making a positive impact locally. I truly believe that even one person can and should empower others to make life and career choices that benefit themselves and inspire those around them.
Sometimes, all it takes is someone to take the first step to show that change is safe, exciting, and worth the effort. My goal and aspirations are to contribute to shifting society's views on offender rehabilitation, always keeping victim rights at the heart, respecting everyone's dignity, and ensuring the safety and security of our communities.
I feel honored to take this first step in representing my fellow students, and I warmly invite you to reach out to me with any ideas, questions, or comments.
Together, let’s make a meaningful difference together.
I’ve always been drawn to the health professions. My grandfather and uncle were both doctors, and growing up, I developed an early curiosity about how people cope with illness and adversity. Experiencing illness in my own family at a young age shaped that curiosity and inspired my interest in the psychological effects of trauma.
I’m a mature-age Master of Clinical Psychology student, with clinical placements at the Toowoomba campus starting in June. I have lived and worked across four countries, which has given me diverse experiences that continue to shape how I see people, communities, and systems. Previously, I served as Student Senate Representative for the Institute of Health & Wellbeing at Federation University, where I advocated for student needs across academic, social, and wellbeing domains, led online forums for remote and international students, and contributed to policy initiatives including the Student Wellbeing and Mental Health Plan.
As School of Health, Psychological and Medical Sciences Representative at UniSQ, I’m committed to ensuring student voices are heard, perspectives are represented in decision-making, and students have opportunities to engage, connect and prosper, academically and socially.
