Project Partnerships

Project Partnerships at UniSQ are all about students and staff working together as equals to create and deliver projects that improve student life and learning. There’s no set plan, students and staff shape the project together from the beginning, making sure everyone’s ideas are heard and valued.

What are the projects about?

All Project Partnerships align with one of two key focus areas, enhancing the student experience or advancing learning and teaching practices. A typical Project Partnership at UniSQ runs for 10 weeks, during which students contribute 30 hours of work, supported by staff who collaborate for the same duration and may invest additional time to ensure the project's success.

Paid student positions

Each team includes two paid students and one or two staff members. Students are paid for working a total of 30 hours over ten weeks at a rate of Professional Level 3, Step One. This flexible arrangement allows students to contribute approximately three hours per week, though this can be adjusted to meet the project's needs. Project partnership opportunities will be posted on UConnect as they become available. Keep an eye out, or you may also propose your own project.

Proposing a project partnership

Please keep in mind that to build a genuine partnership, goals, objectives, and outcomes should be developed collaboratively with students from the outset - not predetermined. While a general idea of the project is helpful for recruitment, it’s important to keep the direction flexible and open to student input.

  1. Please assess your current workload and determine if you have the capacity to prepare for the Project Partnership and provide support to the Student Project Partners throughout this project.
  2. Please provide an overview of the problem you are addressing or an initiative you'd like to bring to life. You can also schedule a meeting if you'd prefer to explore whether project partnerships are the right fit for you by emailing representation@unisq.edu.au
  3. Confirm which Project Partnership stream this project will fall within (student experience or learning and teaching).
  4. Send us a job description to recruit students and a short (60 words or less) promotional spiel for advertising.
  5. Provide any eligibility criteria, such as undergraduate status, gender, GPA of 4.0+, etc.

Please be mindful that the recruitment process takes four weeks and involves:

  • two weeks for advertising
  • one week to screen applications
  • one week for your team to select participants.

  1. Please send us an overview of a problem you are solving, or an initiative you would like to bring to life.
  2. Confirm which Project Partnership stream this project will fall within (student experience or learning and teaching).

  3. Send us a short (60 words or less) promotional summary for advertising and we will connect you with a staff member (unless you have already sourced a staff member who is eager to join – let us know!).

The suitability of your Project Partnership proposal will be assessed against this rubric – so make sure your proposal ticks these boxes.
