Accessibility support at UniSQ

At UniSQ, we’re committed to ensuring every student feels supported, included, and set up for success. If you’re living with a disability, medical condition, mental health challenge, or you're a carer, we’re here to help you access the support you need.

We offer a range of personalised services to help you manage your studies, including exam and assessment adjustments, assistive technology, accessible learning spaces, and wellbeing referrals.

Some adjustments require registration with our service, while others are available to all students. Our team is here for a confidential chat about how UniSQ can support your studies.

You may be eligible if you have a short- or long-term medical condition, are a carer (as defined by the Carer Recognition Act 2010), or face other circumstances that impact your ability to study. Eligibility is guided by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

Registering for support

To make sure everything’s in place when you need it, it’s best to start the registration process early - especially before any major assessments are due.

As a first step, book an appointment with one of our team members.

A team member will work with you to discuss your needs and any reasonable adjustments or services that may be available to you that help reduce the impact of your circumstances on your studies and support fair access to your course.

Your support needs may change over time. In the appointment, we’ll talk about how long support will be available during your studies and include this in your Learning Support Plan (LSP).

We'll also discuss what documentation may be required.

To access support through UniSQ’s Accessibility Support team, you’ll need to provide documentation that helps us understand your situation and how it may affect your studies. This allows us to work with you to create a support plan that suits your needs.

Your documentation should clearly describe your condition and come from a qualified health practitioner. It must include their details, be signed, dated, and easy to read. For temporary conditions, documentation should be no more than two weeks old. For fluctuating conditions, it should be within six months. Permanent conditions don’t have a time limit, but we may ask for updated information to make sure your support stays relevant.

We recommend using the Health Practitioner Report form if possible, as it helps ensure all the necessary details are included.

It’s also helpful if your practitioner can:

  • suggest reasonable adjustments
  • explain how your condition may affect your studies
  • include any other relevant details that help us understand your needs.

Support and services available

A reasonable adjustment helps you take part in your studies on the same basis as other students. It must:

  • Support your learning needs.
  • Be fair to other students.
  • Keep the core requirements of your course.

Please ask for adjustments as early as possible so we have time to organise support.

Your personal circumstances may affect your exams, and you might be eligible for reasonable adjustments such as, extra time, a different exam format, or assistive technology.

Please book an appointment with our team to discuss your options. Any approved adjustments will be included in your Learning Support Plan (LSP).

If you have a vision, hearing, or print disability, please contact us early to discuss alternative formats. Support may include captioned recordings, accessible digital texts, enlarged fonts, or other formats.

If your disability or medical condition affects access to learning materials, you may be eligible to borrow specialist software or equipment. Our team will work with you, and your healthcare providers if needed, to ensure the right tools are trialled and suited to your needs.

Each UniSQ campus also has an Assistive Technology Room equipped with specialist tools for your use.

All campuses offer accessible parking and mobility-friendly features, check the campus maps for details.
