Academic study support

At UniSQ, you're supported throughout your studies with a range of academic services designed to help you build confidence, strengthen your skills, and succeed at university.

One of the key services available to you is support from Learning Advisors, who can help you build the skills needed to succeed at university. You can book an appointment to speak with a Learning Advisor in person on any campus, via Zoom, email, or phone - whatever works best for you.

Learning Advisors provide learning support in discipline areas including education, engineering, sciences, IT, business, law, health, communities, creative arts, humanities, and communication. Learning Advisors also assist students who are studying courses at the UniSQ College and College for First Nations.

Learning Advisors can assist with the below topics and more:

  • Academic writing
  • Unpacking assessment tasks and questions
  • Provide resources and advice around assignment types
  • Goal setting, time management, and self-regulated learning
  • Communication and teamwork skills
  • Academic integrity
  • General learning and study strategies, such as exam preparation and learning from lectures.

First Nations Learning Advisors

First Nations Learning Advisors offer culturally-informed academic support to both First Nations and non-Indigenous students.

They can assist across a wide range of disciplines (excluding mathematics), providing support such as:

  • Academic skill development through a culturally responsive lens
  • Holistic engagement with university life for First Nations students
  • Educational guidance in courses with First Nations content or perspectives.

If you're wondering whether your question is something Learning Advisors can help with, here are some examples of what students often ask:

  1. How can I make my writing sound more academic?
  2. I want to organise my time better this trimester what can I do?
  3. Where can I get more information and support about academic integrity?
  4. How do I write a literature review/annotated bibliography/case study?
  5. How do I start my assignment?
  6. Does this paragraph make sense? Is it answering the question?
  7. I want to improve my reading and note-taking skills. What strategies can you suggest?
  8. How can I bring critical thinking into my assignment?
  9. How do I navigate the StudyDesk?
  10. How can I respectfully use First Nations perspectives and knowledge in my assignment?
