Overview

  • UniPrep is a pathway to most UniSQ undergraduate degrees for high school students; focusing on developing academic skills to prepare you for transition to university and success in your chosen undergraduate degree.
  • UniPrep is an ideal program if you are in Year 11 or Year 12 and: 
    • want an introduction to how to study at university level
    • want to find out more about university to see if it is for you
    • you fall short of your dream ATAR or didn’t do the subjects needed for your degree of choice and want to go to university
    • are unsure if your ATAR will get you into the UniSQ degree you want to study.
  • This is a free program for Year 11 and 12 students who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens residing in Australia, or a Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder.
  • Successful completion of UniPrep provides you with the English subject pre-requisite required for UniSQ degrees and ensures you are eligible to apply for a range of specified UniSQ undergraduate degrees. On successful completion of UniPrep, you will also be eligible for 2 QCE points.
  • This program is funded through the Australian government’s Higher Education Participation and Partnership Program to promote equality of opportunity in higher education to people from a low socio-economic background, regional and remote areas and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Further study

This pathway program aims to prepare you for entry to a uni degree. But what if you’re not quite ready for a bachelor degree, or want a qualification sooner? Our Undergraduate Certificate of University Studies (4 courses) or Diploma of Multidisciplinary Studies (8 courses) are the perfect next steps on your university journey.

Entry requirements

To be eligible to apply for UniPrep you must be:

  • Undertaking Year 11 or 12, or equivalent, in the year of application

Applicants are required to provide evidence of their Year 11 or 12 enrolment.

Applications will be assessed individually and alternative pathways provided for students for whom UniPrep is not the most appropriate program. 

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

At UniSQ, we understand the path to University is different for everyone. There are many pathways programs available to fast-track your way to a UniSQ degree, and gain the confidence to study along the way.

Degree structure

To complete this pathway program students must complete 2 units. Most courses (similar to ‘subjects’) are valued at 1 unit.

UniPrep classes

In 2024, UniPrep classes will be held at individual high schools offered during school hours. We will also run UniPrep classes on-campus at UniSQ Toowoomba, Springfield, and Ipswich campus after school once a week for students whose school does not offer the UniPrep program.

You'll complete the following courses:

  • Session 1, 2024 – March to June
  • Session 2, 2024 – July to October
    • AEP1111 Transitioning to University: especially designed to help you transition into university studies. You will engage in career development and undertake tasks related to self-management, including goal setting, time management and planning.

A Year 12 student in 2024 can complete both courses in one year to gain entry to an undergraduate degree in 2025.

Fees and scholarships

If you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen (resident in Australia), holder of either Australian Permanent Residency or Australian Permanent Humanitarian visas, you have access to fee-free places in this program.

Fee-free places are granted for the duration of the program.
