Overview

  • Ride the wave of the technological era with UniSQ’s Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Electronic). The Bachelor of Engineering Honours program will take you directly into a career as a Professional Engineer.
  • You can also choose to increase your knowledge further and combine your major studies in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a four-unit minor in Management or Data Management.
  • The Bachelor of Engineering Honours program gives you the opportunity to get hands-on with a range of advanced technologies - including automated test equipment, embedded real-time controllers, sensors and the Internet of Things, and an exciting final year research project associated with an industry application.
  • You’ll gain a thorough understanding of electrical theory, control theory, electrical plant, computer interfacing and programming, measurement principles and sensor design, signal processing and communications, as well as engineering project management – enabling you to design electrical and electronic products, processes or systems which are soundly based in theory.
  • As an electrical engineering professional your work will focus on interpreting requirements and designing and implanting engineering solutions which optimise social, environmental and economic sustainable outcomes over the full lifetime of the engineering product or project.

Professional accreditation

As a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you will be eligible to apply for graduate membership with Engineers Australia as a Graduate Professional Engineer. After gaining experience working in your field in industry, you can apply for Stage 1 Professional Engineer (MIEAust), and after this for chartered status as a Professional Engineer (CPEng); and with extensive career experience Executive Engineer (ExecEng) accreditation. You will also have the opportunity to work overseas, with your accreditation recognised in the countries that are signatories to the Washington Accord.

When you become an experienced MIEAust, you can apply for RPEQ or other Australian State legislated registration schemes, or as a chartered professional engineer be similarly accredited (RPEQ etc.) and apply for Australian National Engineering Registration.

If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you may be able to use these qualifications to meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Degree structure

To complete this degree students must complete 32 units. Most courses (similar to ‘subjects’) are valued at 1 unit. To study full-time you would usually complete 4 units per semester.

Professional experience

As part of your degree you will need to complete a minimum of 60 days of professional experience. However, many UniSQ students are already employed in industries relevant to their studies and may be able to write up their existing work experience to meet this requirement. These experiences provide you with opportunities to put theory into practice.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of practical experience within this program.

Residential schools

This degree has a mandatory attendance requirement for some of the residential and practical school courses.

If you are enrolled in the External study mode in this degree it is mandatory you attend on-campus for professional practice based and technical residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face practicals and tutorials, use the facilities and meet staff and other students.

Residential schools are one week long intensive sessions held periodically across a program of study, and provided free to students to complete the practical requirements of their program.

You may be able to apply directly to UniSQ if you:

  • are a current or previous UniSQ student returning to study with complete or incomplete qualifications (excluding Head Start students), or
  • have recently graduated from TAFE.

The closing dates for applying directly to UniSQ are:

  • Semester 1, 2023 - applications close on 20 February and the Semester 1 study period commences on Monday 20 February, 2023.
  • Semester 2, 2023 - applications close on 10 July and the Semester 2 study period commences on Monday 10 July, 2023.
