From singer-songwriter Dr Kev Carmody AO, whose anthem From Little Things Big Things Grow is a rallying call for change, to Gold Walkley-winning journalist Mark Willacy, UniSQ alumni are making their mark across Australia and the world.

Do you know a University of Southern Queensland graduate making an impact in your community, your industry, or across the country? Now’s your chance to recognise them.

Nominations are open for the 2025 UniSQ Alumni Awards, which celebrate graduates whose leadership, creativity, and service reflect the best of the University’s spirit.

UniSQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Karen Nelson said the awards highlight how graduates from the Darling Downs and beyond are changing lives.

“From local hospitals to national newsrooms, UniSQ alumni contribute in ways that matter,” Professor Nelson said.

“These awards are about celebrating the achievements of our alumni and sharing their stories.”

The awards honour graduates like Kamilaroi woman, Jennie Waters, a psychologist whose business, IndigiCare Connect, delivers vital disability services across southwest Queensland.

Humanitarian Eve Fraser was recognised for her Global Aquatic Project, which teaches life-saving swim skills to children in high-risk regions. While disability advocate Sharon Boyce has changed lives through education and community leadership.

Rachel Downie was recognised for establishing Stymie, an anonymous online reporting platform protecting students from harm and bullying, which is now used in hundreds of schools across Australia and internationally.

The award categories are:

  • Young Alumnus of the Year
  • Alumni Award for Leadership & Professional Excellence
  • Alumni Award for Community Impact

One standout recipient will be named UniSQ Alumnus of the Year.

Shine a light on the graduates who make our region proud. Nominations close Friday 15 August 2025.
