How to maintain your academic integrity during the Formal Examination Period:
Do
- Prepare for your examination using your own notes and resources.
- Make yourself aware of the support available if you’re experiencing hardship. For example if you’re unable to complete your exams due to medical, work or personal grounds you can apply for a deferred examination.
- Ensure you have a stable internet connection and reliable device. If you are concerned, you can access UniSQ’s 24 hour computer labs to complete your exams.
- Ensure you have fully completed, and submitted your exam by the set closing date and time.
- Turn off any VPNs or location masking devices while completing your exam – VPN use can be an indicator of academic misconduct.
- Contact UniSQ for support. If you encounter a technical failure during your examination you must telephone UniSQ within 15 minutes of losing access. Assessment Support is available during the Final Assessment Period. Check your course StudyDesk for support hours.
- Complete your Academic Integrity Mandatory Training as soon as possible with this link:

Don't
- Don't use generative artificial intelligence to complete your exam, unless you have been provided with explicit instructions from your course coordinator to do so - see information below for updated information about Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage in assessments. Invigilated online examinations do not allow any use of AI.
- Don’t refer to notes that you have shared such as summaries or notes from classes with other students to avoid having highly similar answers in the exam.
- Don’t arrange to do your exam together with your friends – although you may have honest intentions, if we detect students completing the exams at the same time and in the same location, this may amount to collusion.
- Don’t attempt an exam on your phone as it may slow you down.
- Don’t use websites that have example answers and solutions available to purchase. Under Australia’s anti-cheating laws, the promotion or sale of academic cheating services is illegal.

Update on Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage in assessments
To ensure fairness and academic integrity, UniSQ has established four levels of Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage in assessments. These guide the level of AI involvement in your submission, and will be outlined in the assessment task sheet. Your responsibility is to always declare the level of AI involvement in your assessment submissions.
As generative AI uses data and information from sources available to it, any undeclared output produced is someone else’s work, so claiming AI output as your own work violates academic integrity.
Where the task sheet indicates No Artificial Intelligence to be Used Artificial intelligence is not to be used beyond basic editing features (spelling and grammar). In this case, Plagiarism using artificial intelligence could occur by:
- using generative artificial intelligence tools for your assessment.
- consulting with chatbots about your assessment.
- running your assessment through proofreading software that is able to produce content or significantly change the structure and tone of your writing.
Assessment items that are invigilated online examinations do not include an Acceptable AI Use Level; that is, invigilated online examinations do not allow any use of AI.
If artificial intelligence has been permitted in your course, you are still required to credit its contribution through referencing. Where use if AI is permitted, Plagiarism using artificial intelligence could occur by failing to correctly reference artificial intelligence use in your assessment.
Refer to UniSQ referencing guidelines to see how your course’s referencing system states you should reference artificial intelligence. If you are uncertain as to whether artificial intelligence is permitted in your course, please contact your Course Coordinator.
