  • Creative artists have a strong role to play in social assistance industries, which assist people in the community to be healthy and productive. Get prepared by studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing (Music) at UniSQ.
  • This degree will expand your creativity, facilitation and leadership skills, as well as your understanding of the needs of community care and development.
  • Study digital composition, song writing, recording and music production, and collaborative music practice along with foundational human services courses.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to undertake a project placement in a community organisation during your third year of coursework.

Career outcomes

  • Graduates will have the necessary skills to collaborate with health providers, local governments, and community organisations and undertake arts-led service initiatives.
  • Work in the creative industries and apply your talents and abilities in other areas like community services (youth, indigenous, aged, refugee, homeless, unemployed, disability etc.), hospitals/allied health, correctional services, local government, and charity organisations.

ATAR The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a percentile rank used to assess the results of high-school applicants for undergraduate entry into university. 60.00 72.40
  • Attend an interview with selected creative arts major discipline staff to confirm satisfactory capacity to participate in practical courses. 
  • To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in English (Units 3 & 4, C). We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.
  • Applicants are not required to have undertaken high school music and certification from the Australian Music Examinations Board is not required.
  • If no ATAR, applicants can successfully undertake an audition/interview and supply a written statement.

Audition and interview information

Applicants will need to bring:

  • A school exit statement, or evidence of previous education standard achieved.
  • Please look at further audition requirements for the Bachelor of Music (Music Practice major or Musical Communication major)
  • If you don't have an ATAR, please provide a written statement (500 words) addressing your goals and aspirations as a creative artist working in community settings, with some reflection on your musical experiences and training.

Note: It is a requirement that Queensland-based students hold a current positive notice indicating that they are deemed suitable for working with children and young people whilst studying the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing. If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you may be able to use these qualifications to meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

*The second 8-unit major can be chosen from any approved 8-unit major in another discipline in the School of Creative Arts (e.g. Theatre, Visual Art, TV/Radio, Film Production etc.) or from a recommended major outside of the creative arts, such as Child and Family Studies, Health and Social Wellbeing, or Community Development and Indigenous Studies, providing all entry requirements are met.

Professional experience

As part of the degree, you will need to complete professional experience placements. These experiences provide you with opportunities to put theory into practice.

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional practice within this degree.

Residential schools

All students will have the opportunity to come on-campus for residential schools, where you will attend face-to-face lectures and tutorials to gain practical experience, use facilities and specialist equipment, and meet staff and other students.
