Career outcomes
As a graduate of the Master of Research, you will develop fundamental research skills and specialist area knowledge that will enhance your career prospects or enable you to proceed to further higher degree by research studies.
You can apply for roles in:

Professional accreditation
The Psychology specialisation will seek accreditation by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). You will be required to undertake the compulsory courses within this specialisation in order to meet this accreditation.
What you'll study
To graduate from the Master of Research, you must successfully complete 16 units of study.
Degree structure
A research degree primarily focuses on independent, original investigation under academic supervision, enabling you to contribute new knowledge to your field while developing advanced research skills and subject-matter expertise.

Degree requirements
You have the opportunity to participate in an optional industry internship placement relevant to your research area.
Internships provide HDR students with the opportunity to establish professional networks, enhance employability outcomes, demonstrate and strengthen professional and research skills and gain experience professional experience.
Internships require approval from your Primary Supervisor and the Graduate Research School.
Internships can be self-sourced or facilitated by a third-party provider. The Graduate Research School can provide guidance on navigating potential internship opportunities.
Other study options
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) provides a further study pathway (providing you meet the entry requirements), allowing you to delve deeper into your research interest.
Entry requirements
You need to satisfy the following requirements to be considered for entry into this research degree.
- Completed a 3-year degree at an Australian university or equivalent, with a GPA of 5.0/7.0 or above, or equivalent score, in a relevant discipline
or
- Completed a 3-year degree at an Australian university or equivalent, and have successfully completed a coursework masters, with a GPA of 5.0/7.0 or above, or equivalent score, in a relevant discipline
plus
- Acceptance will be subject to the availability of, and endorsement by, a UniSQ supervisor.
- In addition to the above, students in the Psychology research specialisation will need to have completed an APAC-accredited 3-year sequence undergraduate program in psychology and to be current in the area of psychology. This means students need to have commenced their studies in an APAC-accredited program no earlier than 8 years previous to the year of application and have satisfied requirements for the award of the degree no more than 3 years previously. The rationale for this is to ensure students can still demonstrate a breadth/depth of knowledge, skills, and application in psychology and meet Australian Psychology Accreditation Council competencies.

Applications may be submitted at any time, but it is ideal to allow a minimum of 25 working days between when you submit your application and the start of your requested study period.

Prior to applying, you will need to clarify your research topic and find a research supervisor. You can then apply direct to UniSQ with other information as specified by the Graduate Research School. You must receive approval from your research supervisor for the proposed study plan and thesis topic prior to confirmation of acceptance.
You can select to start your study in Trimester 1, 2 or 3.

Now it’s time to find and connect with your potential supervisor. Email them to introduce yourself, including a short outline (approximately 500 words) of your intended research project.
Be sure to provide a draft HDR Preliminary Research Thesis Topic Proposal when you contact your proposed supervisor. The proposed supervisor may ask for additional information to support your application.
It can take up to 25 working days for the Graduate Research School to review your application. If you have not contacted a potential supervisor, or have not submitted complete documentation with your application, this process may take longer.
Once your application has been reviewed, you will be formally notified by email of the admission decision.
