What you'll study

To graduate from the Master of Public Health, you must successfully complete 16 units of study.

Degree structure

A postgraduate university degree typically comprises of advanced coursework and research opportunities, allowing you to deepen your expertise in a specific field while building upon foundational knowledge.

Students can choose between the Coursework + Research track, or the Coursework only track.

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previous studies or relevant work experience. This could reduce the number of courses you need to study to complete your degree.

Degree requirements

You’ll need to complete a total of 120 hours of placement, across 2 courses. The placements provide you with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to public health practice, and to start networking with potential employers. 

All students must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of practical placements within this degree.

Entry requirements

There are many ways to be considered for entry into a UniSQ degree based on your education, work experience and relevant personal attributes. You need to satisfy the following requirements to be considered for entry into this postgraduate degree.

  • Completed a 3-year or 4-year bachelor degree, or equivalent, in the area of health with a 4.8 GPA or higher;
    or
  • completed a 3-year or 4-year bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a different discipline with a 4.8 GPA or higher, and completed 1 year of full-time work experience in a healthcare setting;
    or
  • completed UniSQ's Graduate Certificate of Public Health or Graduate Diploma of Public Health with a 4.8 GPA or higher.

You'll need to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires:

  • IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted.

During your study

While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet these requirements throughout your studies.

All students need to provide the following documents prior to commencing clinical placements:

  • Blue Card or Working with Children Check
  • Australian Police Check certificate
  • Resume (CV)
  • UniSQ Student Declaration
  • UniSQ Placement Request Form.

You are responsible for the full cost of your degree and are charged a tuition fee.
  • This estimated 2025 annual fee is based on the current average rate for your first year of study (8 units per year) and does not include cost of materials such as textbooks, additional costs or the Student Services and Amenities fee

Additional costs

You may be required to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee as part of your degree cost.

Placement courses may incur some additional costs, including uniform and equipment, transport to and from venues and, in some instances, living expenses, particularly for placements in rural and remote settings

You can submit your application through a UniSQ-approved agent, or apply online directly to UniSQ for your chosen degree.

After you’ve submitted your application, you will be emailed a reference number. Please allow up to 14 days for assessment. If further assessment is required for course credits or exemptions, this process may take longer.

Once you have received your letter of offer from UniSQ, you will need to return your signed acceptance of offer form. The UniSQ team will contact you at this time with more information regarding next steps.
