Entry requirements
You need to satisfy the following requirements to be considered for entry into this degree.

To study this degree, we assume you have sound knowledge in:
- English (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent
We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

Attend an audition/interview
If no ATAR, applicants can successfully undertake an audition/interview and supply a written statement.
Audition and interview information
On-campus applicants must attend an audition and interview and perform two contrasting pieces. Applicants for online study will submit a video recording of their performances and attend a phone or Zoom interview.
Applicants will also need to provide:
- A school exit statement, or evidence of previous education standard achieved.
- Your own accompanying tracks on MP3 or an iPod if required.
- Applicants are not required to have undertaken high school music, or Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) practical/theory, or musicianship exams.
- If you don't have an ATAR, please bring a written statement (500 words) addressing your goals and aspirations as a musician, with some reflection on your musical experiences and training. Please supply your submission at the interview.

- Please register for an audition. Once registered, we will review your submission and invite you to be interviewed.
You'll need to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires:
- IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted.
During your study
While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet these requirements throughout your studies.
It is a requirement that Queensland-based students hold a current positive notice indicating that they are deemed suitable for working with children and young people whilst studying the Bachelor of Music. It is important to apply early to allow enough time for your application to be assessed and processed to meet study commencement dates and participation in Orientation activities. You should also factor in visa processing requirements and timeframes, where applicable.
After you’ve submitted your application, you will be emailed a reference number. Please allow up to 14 days for assessment. If further assessment is required for course credits or exemptions, this process may take longer.
Once you have received your letter of offer from UniSQ, you will need to return your signed acceptance of offer form. The UniSQ team will contact you at this time with more information regarding next steps.

Frequently asked questions
The entry requirements to study a Bachelor of Music will vary depending on the education provider you choose.
At UniSQ you need to meet a minimum ATAR and assumed knowledge. ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subject areas before you start your degree.
You will also be required to attend an audition/interview either on-campus or virtually and provide additional supporting information.

The Bachelor of Music major that’s right for you will vary depending on your interests and goals. At UniSQ we have two different majors to choose from.
Music Practice - Enhance and tailor your existing musical skills to meet the ever-evolving requirements of a modern musician. Explore individual and collaborative music making, live and digital performance, as well as song writing, composition and musical arrangement.
Musical Communication - Discover musical cultures and theoretical concepts which enables communication between musicians and audiences. You can also tailor your learning experience by selecting minors, electives and a second major within Creative Arts or from other disciplines.
