This workshop provides an accessible introduction to the theory of practice architectures (TPA) (Kemmis et al. 2014), drawing on Claire’s experience applying the framework across both empirical and conceptual projects. Using examples from her recently published monograph Inside the History Classroom (2026) and the Culturally Nourishing Schooling project, she will outline the core concepts behind the TPA and demonstrate how the theory illuminates the relational, contextual, and disciplinary dimensions of practice across varied research settings. The session shows how TPA offers a flexible analytic and conceptual lens for examining the complex conditions that enable and constrain practices in diverse educational and social contexts. This session will be of particular interest to researchers seeking to understand practices across varied professional and organisational contexts, including education, health, community sectors, and industry.
