Presented by Assoc Prof Anup Shrestha and Amanda Pearson
When
18 NOV 2026
10.00 AM - 12.00 PM
Where
In person Toowoomba Campus S211
Where do journal articles fit into your PhD?

What could you publish from your research, when should you start writing, and how do you make sure several papers eventually tell one coherent PhD story?

Publishing shouldn't feel like another workload added on top of your PhD. In this interactive workshop, we will explore how you can publish as you progress by thinking of your PhD as a research portfolio containing potential publication “golden nuggets” waiting to be discovered.   Drawing on agile principles and experience supervising  PhD by Publication candidates to completion, we will explore parallel, iterative and sequential publication pathways.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian, Amanda Pearson, will also present:

  • How do I choose the right journal for me - THINK. CHECK. SUBMIT method - https://thinkchecksubmit.org/journals/
  • How do you find quality journals?
  • Journal rankings
  • Avoiding predatory publishing and paper mills
  • ORCiD and publishing
  • Celebrating your publications to attract attention and increase collaboration

Most importantly, this is a working workshop, so bring your laptop!

We will use practical activities and some useful GenAI prompts to help you mine your own PhD work for publication opportunities.

You will leave with your own draft PhD Publication Plan, tailored to your research topic and stage of candidature, showing your potential papers, how they connect, and what you can do next.
