At UniSQ, we know our greatest impact comes from putting students at the centre of everything we do. Our mission is to empower learners, support communities, and deliver research that makes a real difference.
A focus on student success underpins Our Foundations, Our Future: UniSQ’s new engagement approach inviting students, staff, alumni, industry, research partners, and the broader community to help shape the University’s 2026–2030 strategic plan.
We are not developing this strategy in isolation. We are building it with you because the success of our university depends on how well we reflect the needs and aspirations of the communities we serve.
Through roundtables, forums, alumni feedback opportunities, and an online platform, we are listening closely to what matters most to the people who know us best.
To create lasting impact, we must increase participation in post-secondary education across our regions. In Toowoomba, only around 40% of school leavers go on to university or TAFE, which is below the national average.
There is more work to do to raise awareness, remove barriers, and create new pathways for people of all ages and backgrounds to access the transformational opportunities that tertiary education provides.
At UniSQ, we are committed to this work. We are co-designing programs with industry in growth sectors such as cybersecurity, climate change, agricultural systems, health, and advanced manufacturing.
We are investing in place-based infrastructure that brings together education, industry and community, such as the Toowoomba Agriculture, Science and Engineering Precinct and the new Allied Health building being constructed at our Ipswich campus.
We’re working on drought resilience with regional councils, developing future fuels with local industry, collaborating with hospitals and health services to improve health outcomes, and exploring space technologies with national and international partners.
Most importantly, we are shaping a future aligned with the needs and hopes of our students.
Higher education is under increasing scrutiny across Australia and the world. Funding is under pressure. But workforce shortages are growing and communities need graduates with the skills to innovate, care for others, and build more cohesive societies.
Universities must shape a better future for all by ensuring students are at the heart of curriculum design, teaching, and the support systems that help them thrive.
Through Our Foundations, Our Future, we are turning again to our communities – as UniSQ’s founders did in 1960 – to ask what opportunities we should pursue, what challenges you see, and how
UniSQ can have the greatest impact in your lives and regions. Our vision is to be Australia’s most transformative university. That starts with a strategy shaped by the values, needs and hopes of those we serve, with students firmly at the centre.
