Having a LinkedIn profile gives you the opportunity to communicate your Professional Identity in the online world, connect with new people who share the same interests as you, and get noticed by people you may otherwise never meet.

LinkedIn is constantly evolving, so we recommend searching for the latest official and expert-created resources for how-to guides, and tips for students and graduates. You can also check out the self-help articles on LinkedIn, including Create a good LinkedIn profile.

Want expert feedback to make sure your profile stands out? Use our LinkedIn Review Service to get personalised feedback from our Career Education team.

For many people interviews can be a nerve wracking experience. However, an interview is really an opportunity for an organisation to get to know you. They will already have a good idea of your skills and experiences, now they want to understand more about you - your motivations, what you’re passionate about and why you are interested in their position.

Check out our Interview preparation guide (PDF) to get started. You can also access the Big Interview to get hands-on practice with mock interviews tailored to your specific major or area of interest.

It’s important to stay alert to illegal recruitment activities that can put your safety and finances at risk. Watch out for warning signs such as being asked to work unpaid trials, offers to pay you in cash, or requests for your personal documents like your passport. Sometimes, you might be asked to provide your own ABN as an employee, work excessive overtime, or respond to job offers that seem too good to be true or require no interview at all.

Be cautious if you’re pressured to act urgently, asked to transfer money, or if the company’s website or email address looks unprofessional or contains errors.

If you’re ever concerned that you may have been targeted by a scam, it’s important to act quickly. Reach out to your local police or the Australian Federal Police, contact your bank to protect your accounts, and seek advice from organisations like Anti-Slavery Australia, the Red Cross, or UniSQ Support services.

Remember, support is available and you don’t have to handle it alone.

Fair Work Australia

The Fair Work Ombudsman helps everyone in Australia follow the laws that make workplaces equal and fair. Understand minimum wage, tax requirements, visa limitations, leave rights, contract requirements and employment conditions on the Fair Work website.

Modern Slavery

Modern slavery is a serious issue that affects vulnerable workers globally. It’s important to recognise the signs of exploitation, including forced labor, human trafficking, and supply chain transparency. You can find more information on the Australian Government website and on the UniSQ Modern Slavery page.

International students

International students often face unique challenges when seeking employment in a new country. It’s important that you understand your rights, visa restrictions and employment opportunities.
