  • Unlock your potential to make a difference with UniSQ’s Addiction specialisation, designed to equip you with specialised skills to support individuals, families and communities challenged with addiction.  
  • Be guided by industry experts and experienced academics as you complete three courses focused on addiction within counselling and a core component of counselling practice.  
  • Explore topics such as relapse prevention, risk assessment and treatment planning. Gain an introduction to the theories of substance and behavioural addiction, and explore the skills required to practice with trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches to addiction counselling. 
  • Learn about lifespan development theories, detailing support for individuals at different life stages and from diverse groups, including neurodiverse people, First Nations communities, and culturally and linguistically diverse populations. 
  • Focus on working with substance and behavioural addictions throughout the lifespan and how counsellors might approach co-existing mental health challenges.

Career outcomes

The Addiction specialisation in the Graduate Certificate of Counselling will provide knowledge to assist and complement work within various roles within industries such as counselling, social work, human services, policing and criminal justice, education and health.
