CSIRO iPhD Scholarship – Red meat functionality

This project aims to re-imagine the role of red meat as part of a healthy lifestyle by using novel technology to create new usages and occasions that transform commodity red meat and by-products into functional food ingredients. The expected outcomes are to use technology platforms to harvest and convert meat components into quality ingredients. This project aligns to the global wellness trend for high protein and iron foods as well as nutraceuticals, including collagen, and will improve carcass utilisation.

The scholarship includes:

a) A four year scholarship package totalling approximately $47,000 per annum tax exempt (2025 rate).  
b) A four year Project Expense and Development package of $13,000 per annum. 
c) A 60 day Industry Engagement component with the industry partner. 
d) A structured professional development and training program to develop your applied research skills.

 
• Stipend of AUD $47,000
• Maximum period of tenure of an award is 4 years. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree will be deducted from the period of tenure.
 
To be eligible applicants must:
• have completed an Honours Degree with First Class or 2A Honours, or equivalent level, or a Master's degree with a significant research component;  
• have applied, or currently enrolled in the at UniSQ;
• not be receiving equivalent support providing a benefit greater than 75% of the student’s stipend rate;
• be eligible to commence or continue a PhD in March or April 2026
• be a domestic student or have permanent residence
 
To be eligible applicants must have:   
• Be degree qualified in relevant discipline – e.g. Food Science, Industrial Design, Project Management
• Relevant experience in the food industry, ideally knowledge of new product development, process improvement and product launch protocols.
• High level written communication and presentation skills and ability to communicate, consult and build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to use computer systems and the internet to search and record information, communicate work related activities and search for new information
• Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams
• Relationship / account management and/or events coordinator that show case the ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
• Project management skills and demonstrated use of systems that manage milestones
• Understanding of research methodology and innovation frameworks – design of research question(s), methodologies and reporting of key findings
• Ability to communicate, consult and build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to manage own performance
