Graduate research students are expected to write articles for journals and chapters for books. In this workshop, we will discuss the academic publishing process. In particular, this workshop is designed to provide students with effective strategies to maximise the possibilities of publishing. We will discuss planning for publication, choosing appropriate avenues, managing the peer review process, and strategies to increase the impact of your work.

Proposed learning outcomes: 
Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
1. Identify suitable publication avenues by evaluating aims and scopes, impact factors, and audience alignment to strategically select outlets for research dissemination.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the academic publishing process, including manuscript preparation, submission protocols, and managing peer review feedback effectively.
3. Apply strategies to enhance research impact, such as planning for publication early in the research process, engaging with open access options, and promoting work through academic and public platforms.

Dr Lynette is an award-winning and highly cited researcher and educator in the area of HDR specific research skills, methods and support. She has a H-index of 21 and a total of 2632 citations. She has received numerous awards for her work including a Dean’s Award for Programs that Enhance Learning (2019) and a Global Impact Grant (2022) and is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
