This presentation will explore the ethical considerations of using generative AI tools in research, with a focus on how these technologies can be leveraged responsibly while mitigating potential harms. Participants will gain insight into the benefits and challenges of incorporating generative AI into academic research workflows. By the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the key ethical challenges associated with using generative AI in research, including issues of bias, intellectual property, transparency, and privacy. 2. Understand what is currently meant by 'ethical AI’ and understand how we might apply this understanding when using AI responsibly in research. 3. Critically evaluate use cases involving generative AI, identifying best practices and lessons learned from both successful and problematic applications.
