This report outlines my ongoing doctoral research investigating the factors influencing the development of low-cost carriers (LCCs) in the Asia-Pacific region. The research is organized into three studies, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of both the external and internal factors affecting LCC growth in this region.

The first study is a systematic review of the external factors affecting the growth of LCCs in Asia Pacific and the impacts of LCCs on tourism, economic development, and social wellbeing.

The second study uses a two-stage network DEA model and a three stage least-squares (3SLS) model to empirically identify and examine the key factors affecting the operational and financial efficiencies of major LCCs around the world and to further investigate the determinants of the efficiency levels of LCCs in Asia Pacific. The third study employs a semi-structured interview to identify the challenges and opportunities facing Chinese LCCs in a semi-deregulated Chinese aviation market, offering an in-depth analysis of the policies and regulations needed to support the development and growth of the China's booming LCC sector. Together, the three studies contribute to the aviation literature with a comprehensive understanding of key factors influencing the development and operations of LCCs in the Asia-Pacific region.
