Gender-based violence is any form of physical or non-physical violence, harassment, abuse or threats, based on gender, that results in, or is likely to result in, harm, coercion, control, fear or deprivation of liberty or autonomy. All forms of gender-based violence are unacceptable at UniSQ. If a student experiences physical, psychological, or sexual abuse, support is available – even if the situation occurred outside the UniSQ context.
Gender-based violence can include sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic and family violence, stalking, online abuse, discrimination, and other intimidating and threatening behaviours.
This short video explains what gender-based violence is.
Students can choose to seek support by disclosing an experience of gender-based violence to Safer Communities, and discuss other reporting options, whether at UniSQ or to external authorities.
Safer Communities can be contacted Monday – Friday between 8.00am and 4.00pm by calling +61 746 312 372, by emailing safercommunities@unisq.edu.au or by using this online form.
If you are seeking support for experiences of sexual assault or domestic and family violence outside of UniSQ, or after hours, you can call Australia’s National Hotline 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732). This is a free call and is available 24/7.
In an emergency, always call 000 for police, fire or ambulance.
