Attending a graduation ceremony

Please remember, that you can only complete the following steps after you've received your congratulations email and before the closing date for ceremony registrations.

  1. Select 'Graduations' in your Student Centre, through UConnect.
  2. Look for your program with ‘Deferred Graduation Ceremony’ in brackets. E.g. Master of Public Health (Deferred Graduation Ceremony).
  3. On your graduations program page, you will see:
    • Graduation status, including a message congratulating you on completing your academic program.
    • Completed Program Completions Readiness Check.
    • Graduation Ceremony Registration.
  4. If you haven't already, please complete the 'Program Completions Readiness Check'
  5. Under ‘Graduation Ceremony Registration’, select your program. If this is your first time attempting to register for a ceremony, the status should show 'Not started'.
  6. Select ‘I would like to attend a Graduation Ceremony’.
  7. Click the ‘start’ button to continue through the registration.
  8. Complete your registration, including payment of your Ceremony Fee (AUD150). Academic dress sizing will be confirmed two weeks prior to the ceremony.

Your AUD150 Ceremony Fee includes your loaned academic dress, light refreshments for you and your guests, and ceremony print program/s. After the ceremony you'll keep your mortarboard or Doctoral bonnet & chord. The Ceremony Fee is the same for all graduates and must be paid prior to the deadline.

If you have previously registered for a ceremony but needed to cancel, please email graduations@unisq.edu.au with your preferred ceremony date and time.

At your ceremony, we’ll have our gowning team available to fit you with your relevant academic dress, based on your:

  • level of study (Undergraduate, Masters etc.)
  • discipline (Business, Nursing etc.).

Costs

Costs for academic dress are included in your graduation Ceremony Fee, which includes the purchase of your headwear, and the loan of your gown and hood or stole.

Sizing

You will be asked to confirm your sizing for your academic dress details two weeks before your graduation ceremony. Keep an eye out for an email from us with a link to Reed Events, where you will go to access your guest tickets and enter your academic dress sizing.

Academic dress loan conditions

Please note, the following conditions apply to the loaned items of your academic dress:

  • Items cannot be removed from the graduation ceremony venue.
  • Items must be returned within an hour of the conclusion of the graduation ceremony.
  • A cleaning charge will be applied to items returned in a soiled condition.
  • Items not returned will incur a fee for the full replacement value.
  • Providing your own academic dress for the ceremony does not alter the Ceremony Fee.

What to wear

We encourage you to wear smart attire rather than casual clothing or casual footwear to your ceremony. Additionally, academic dress can be quite warm, so keep this in mind when selecting appropriate clothing to suit your ceremony location and date.

At the beginning of each graduation ceremony series, UniSQ hosts a Cultural Sashing and Completion Ceremony, which recognises and celebrates specifically the achievements of First Nations students who have completed their pathway, Undergraduate or Postgraduate programs or Doctorate.

If you're a graduating First Nations student, we would love to have you at the ceremony.

At the Ceremony, you’ll be presented with a First Nations stole for you to wear at your graduation ceremony, lined with colours representing:

  • Aboriginal
  • Torres Strait Islander
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.

For more information on Cultural Sashing and Completion Ceremonies, please contact the College for First Nations.

Photography

On the day, Silver Rose Photography will take your stage photo and provide you with an opportunity for graduation portraits, including with friends and family.

Your edited ceremony video will be available for you to download for three (3) months after the ceremony date.
