Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re a mature age student, you’ve come to the right place.  Over 75% of UniSQ’s students are over the age of 25, meaning you’ll be surrounded by likeminded peers wanting to improve their education.

Whether you’re upskilling to progress your career, pursuing a career change, studying for the first time since high-school, or you didn’t complete your high-school certificate, UniSQ can support you.

There are different options when applying to UniSQ, depending on the degree you’re interested in and your previous work and/or study experience.

  • If you have not completed your high school education, one of our pathway programs might be the best option for you.
  • If you have a high school certificate, and you’re wanting to study your first undergraduate degree, you will submit your application through QTAC.  Don’t forget to check to see if you’re eligible for any uni credit based on previous work experience.  This can help take time off your degree.
  • If you’re looking to change careers, our Careers and Employability team offer free one-on-one career planning sessions.  They will help you to lay out your career goals and align them with a degree that matches.
The short answer is - yes you can.  We’re not saying it will be without some organisation, balance, and the occasional difficult moment.  But what we can say is, we’ll be here to support you along the way.  And it will be worth it.

Many of our students work full-time and study part-time to fit in classes around their schedules.  For some that means studying on their lunch break, on the commute to and from work, after hours or on the weekends.  Others will choose to work only part-time while completing their degree.  That’s up to you!

Choosing a program and study mode that suits you is the first step.  At UniSQ you can choose to study online or on campus, or a mix of both.  You can also increase or decrease your study load if your situation changes.

If you ever need a helping hand, please let us know.  We are proud to offer some of the best university support around.

It’s a common misconception that we are expected to have our careers mapped out with exactly how we want them to go from a young age.  In realty, the norm now is that people change jobs and careers far more often, and for many different reasons.

Flexibility, financial incentives, and employee benefits are among the top reasons people change careers, alongside personal values and career satisfaction.

UniSQ’s Careers & Employability Team offer free one-on-one career planning sessions.  We can help you map out your next career move, as well as help you:

  • develop career management skills
  • set goals and strategies to help you with your career decisions
  • make sound career decisions and set directions
  • discover resources to support career decisions and actions
  • plan for employment after graduation.

UniSQ degrees are available in a variety of study modes, so you can study on your own terms, in your own time.  It’s all about fitting study in with your life, so whether that means starting at a time of year that suits you, or studying online, on campus or externally – the choice is yours.

However you choose to study, you’ll experience the same level of support and opportunity to connect with your lecturers and peers.  You can also adjust your subject enrolment to meet your needs. Take one subject at a time, study over summer, or take extra subjects when life allows it.
UniSQ programs are available in the following modes of study:

All of your study materials are available online through your personal UConnect student portal - and you won't need to come on campus at all while studying these subjects.

On campus

We have three campuses in Toowoomba, Springfield and Ipswich.  If you choose to study on campus, you will be expected to attend lectures, tutorials and workshops on campus as part of your study.  Your study materials will still be made available online through your personal UConnect student portal.

Your everyday study materials are available online through your personal UConnect student portal.  External subjects require you to be able to attend Residential Schools at various times through the year (typically in the mid-semester break) or require your attendance at a place of work.

Why UniSQ?

More than 75% of our students study online.
Tailor your degree to fit in with your lifestyle.
Choose from over 80 study disciplines areas.

Bachelor degrees

A bachelor degree takes three to four years (if studying full-time) depending on what you choose to study. Some degrees have an honours component in the fourth year which can be a gateway into postgrad and research study.

Associate degrees

Two-year associate degrees (if studying full-time) are an ideal middle ground between a diploma and bachelor degree allowing you to delve more into your specialisation.

These one year degrees (if studying full-time) allow you to sample study areas of interest and receive credits when transitioning into a bachelor degree.

Begin your study journey and get a taste of university by completing a short, four-subject certificate.

Single courses

If you don’t want to commit to a full degree, you can enrol in a single subject to upskill, cross-skill or find a new skill. Choose from over 600 professional development single courses across 80+ disciplines.
