More than 150 schoolchildren were rocketed into outer space at the weekend (October 8) during a Curious Kids astronomy event hosted by some of the world’s leading scientists at the University of Southern Queensland.

The budding astronauts travelled from across the state to attend, with some even convincing their parents to drive more than three hours from northern New South Wales.

From searching for aliens to a fun-filled tour of the solar system, the youngsters had all of their extra-terrestrial questioned answered.

Among the guest speakers was rocket designer Dr Fabian Zander whose recent research was used by NASA to better understand where asteroids will fall on Earth.

The event coincided with this year’s National Space Week, celebrating sustainability in space.
