Frequently Asked Questions

Year 12 students apply for university via Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). You can apply for up to 6 degrees on your application, putting them in preferential order from 1 to 6. QTAC is open for applications in August and closes in December.

UniSQ has various scholarships available for Year 12 students. USQ’s Academic Excellence Scholarships are automatically awarded to any eligible Year 12 student who puts UniSQ as #1 on their QTAC application and achieve the required ATAR. No application is required and eligible students will automatically receive a scholarship offer.

The Australian Government provides financial assistance to eligible domestic students through the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). A HELP loan allows you to defer payment of your course fees and Student Amenities fee while you study. HELP loans are repaid through the Australian Taxation Office when your income reaches the compulsory repayment threshold.

HECS-HELP Loans (HECS standing for Higher Education Contribution Scheme) cover the cost of student contributions for students in a Commonwealth supported place.

You are eligible for a HECS-HELP loan if you:

  • are an Australian citizen who will undertake at least one unit of study in Australia in a Commonwealth supported place.
  • are a Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder who will be resident in Australia for the duration of your unit of study.
  • are a New Zealand citizen who holds a Special Category Visa and meets the long term residency requirements.
  • meet the genuine student and completion rate requirements (students who commence in a new program from 1 January 2022).

That’s okay! UniSQ can help you get into your desired degree regardless of your ATAR - even if you didn't study for ATAR. Our free Pathway Programs can help you get into your chosen degree. They can be as short as one semester and can guarantee you entry into most USQ degrees. You'll learn how to succeed at university, and gain the confidence to follow your dream career.

You can also take part in UniPrep before you start university. UniPrep is perfect for you if you are in Year 11 or 12 and:

  • want to gain entry to a degree program at UniSQ
  • want an introduction to how to study at university level
  • want to find out more about university to see if it is for you
  • you fall short of your dream ATAR or didn’t do the subjects needed for your degree of choice and want to go to university
  • are unsure if your ATAR will get you into the UniSQ degree you want to study.

UniPrep involves workshops at either UniSQ Toowoomba, Springfield, or Ipswich campus during July - September, as well as some additional online activities, and focuses on developing academic skills before a degree is undertaken, provides a pathway to a wide-range of undergraduate degrees, and supports the transition from school to university.

UniSQ Early Offer allows eligible Year 12 students who place UniSQ #1 on their QTAC application, to receive an early offer into university. Students can receive an early offer in one of two ways - via recommendation from a Principal or Principal's delegate or successful completion of a UniSQ Head Start course.

UniSQ offers over 130 online degrees. Studying online for university is an experience you can make your own – whether that means maintaining a flexible schedule, occasionally visiting campus, or interacting with your fellow students online using our interactive portal. Find your degree and check under ‘Study Mode’ to see if you can study online.

Yes! UniSQ's Careers and Employability team is available to all students throughout their studies and after they have graduated. As part of this service, our team provide one-on-one support and help with career management decisions, application and interviews, work experience and internships and much more.
